Shutdown, tumbling but not starting.
Change oil and oil filter every 5k.
Change fuel and air filter ever 20k.
Liquimoly purge every 20k.
Never used any fuel treatment in tank.
2 weeks before shutdown
Rough idle for 5 seconds one day
No loss of power, no smoking
1 week before shutdown
Rough idle with knock for 5 seconds one day
No loss of power, no smoking
Went to mechanic to check, fuel filter doing 10k very dirty and replaced, fuel filter assembly also removed and cleaned.
Mechanic starts, idle for 10 seconds and knocks for 5 seconds and shuts off. Engine never again started, just tumble.
Mechanic had to drain and clean tank, flush fuel lines, replace the new fuel filter since it got contaminated again as soon as it was changed. Still not starting.
Injectors seized, had to be cleaned/repaired and calibrated. Some washer thingy mechanic also changed. Van started.
Advised from now onwards of the following:
Amsoil injector treatment and cetane boost 2 oz. On every full up
Change fuel filter every 5km, fine to use Sakura if changing every 5km.
Friends advise to do the purge every 10km instead of 20km.
My brothers, please comment up and give me the guidance.

kamakazi wrote:First, locate the drain valve at the base of the fuel filter housing and use the plunger at the top to pump some diesel out every oil change into a small container. it is going to be a bit messy so place a rag below the housing and valve when you are doing this; or have the mechanic do it when he does the oil change.
Use some fuel treatment in the tank (anything that claims to add lubricity and improve cetane rating that has a brand name)
Fill up at fewer fuel stations and observe how the vehicle feels after fill up. (I only fill up at two stations usually). It also goes without saying, don't fill up if a fuel tanker just delivered fuel. I have watched contaminants that I drained into a bottle from my filter housing take at least 2 days to settle out after shaking.
Don't wait until the vehicle is nearly empty before filling up. I usually fill up when my fuel gauge reads around half; so if I do take on severely contaminated fuel, it is just a half tank of the stuff my filter has to deal with. The fuel system constantly cycles fuel pass the filter when the vehicle is running. Whatever
Stop using so much Diesel Purge and stop changing filters so often. There is a greater chance for contaminants to be introduced to the fuel system every time you do one of the above.
Use genuine filters. Yeah, this one is going to hurt your pocket a little bit. It isn't like oil where you know it is a quality product you are adding to the system every time you change it. The quality of our fuel isn't the greatest; Don't cheap out on your last line of defence.
I am just over 100kkms with my 2.5 lux and have changed my fuel filter 3 times.
30k km
46k km (the light on my dashboard came on which forced me to change this one)
98k km
That said I am trying to push 60k km on every fuel filter, but if my dashboard light comes on or I see evidence of severe contamination, I will change it before. I will have to say no to the sakura fuel element; In this instance, I rather run an original filter longer than a cheaper filter at shorter intervals.
I am planning to run some LM diesel purge through my system, but laziness has me dumping a lot of fuel additives in the tank (more than the recommended amount).
I use the following more than any other.
-Power Service Diesel Kleen (available at Pricesmart if you shop there)
-Redline 85 plus
-Penray Diesel fuel conditioner/Diesel fuel prep.vharripersad wrote:My 2014 D4D 3.0 90000km.

What is the largest Tyre size you can run on a Hilux without rubbing and without modifying (no lift/no wheel Arch or mudguard modification, no aftermarket bumper)
I'm thinking about getting 265/70/r17 but something tells me it is just a little too big
