First time Pickup Buyer

Postby Mr. Wheeler » May 20th, 2013, 1:43 pm

Good day Tuners...

I going to make the Leap to 4x4 (by necessity) and wanted some advice on a good Starter vehicle.

Criteria.

1. Daily Driver on rough roads (Tasker /Daisey Road)
2. Need to transport 3 children everyday to school. Crew cab.
3. I Work in a Construction Company so off Road site visits are common
4. Will be Loading Construction Material constantly. Must be able to withstand constant Loading and off Loading.
5. 150k Max budget (with Accessories) i'm not spending over that initially

I'm not knowledgeable on Pickups but i'm willing to read through walls of text for my Peace of mind.

This will also be my first diesel experience driving.
Let the learning begin.....

cant go wrong with hilux, no day no time, alot is to be learnt about owning a diesel, so as said before, do some reading....

in a nutshell, maintenance is key, service regularly and treat your van well, it will return the favour.....

try to stick to oem filters, pm filterproz for best prices and quality merchandise
service regular, and use good lubricants and fuel treatments
try to fuel up at unipet stations
if using a k+n be wary of excess oil that can foul the maf
enjoy you truck.......

I actually paid less as it's a friend's Vehicle....it a proven workhorse....but i will admit it needs tuning....and i'm concerned about two warnings...T-belt light and The diesel fuel filter light....

But so far i got all the original manuals...so i understand the water diesel issue....Going to replace belts soon....it's just that i want to know of good south based Diesel (Hilux) Mechanic.

Hilux for ride comfort and performance for sure, Frontier qd32 or td27 for no frills but bullet prof engine performance.

Take it from me pal don't go Hilux unless its the old model type. Mitsubishi of Nissan QD32 or TD27 is the best option.
