Removed the turbo. A 30mins job.

The ring clamp basically holds the turbo onto the exhaust manifold. It's an 8mm nut. After removing the egr cooler and air filter assembly along with the intercooler pipes you will have room to remove the waste gate two nuts on a bracket bolted to the turbo. Then remove the oil supply line on top one nut,like the power steering nut on the ps compressor has a hole in the middle. There is a return oil line to the sump two bolts located at the bottom of the turbo, I went under the van to remove those bolts. That's it. Tap the turbo out evenly to avoid damages to the propeller.

Sounds good. Looks difficult tho. Changed them already in a diesel Tucson 2012. Was a pain.

I cleaned out the egr cooler in one a while ago. Horrible design but simple enough once you tall and have access to a wide range of small tools and flexible tools. Got almost a half rum glass full of carbon. Piece of grass cutter string and a cordless drill...

Yep the difficult part is standing over the engine. Installation took 2 hours, took the time to clean stuff.

Hey there, the last prices I got for a FU D4EA engine ranged between $18,000 and $23,000. I'm not sure of the exact price for a rebuild. My engine still works but with expensive injector pump and injector repairs due in a few, I've been contemplating buying a QG18 or SR20 with AWD transmission, turboing either one (if I don't get a turbo SR), swapping it in, and selling my engine for parts.

Why?
1)The overall conversion might cost less than the repairs;
2) With higher maintenance costs, diesel has lost its attraction factor locally for quite some time now, especially when you consider the price per litre and the poor quality fuel we get;
3) A reason against conversions was that it would erode your resale value, but Korean vehicles and resale value locally can hardly go in the same sentence and how much resale value can I expect on a 14 year old vehicle anyway? (Don't tell the 'Yota boys I said that) :lol:

Does the gears jump when moving between drive and natural? When you restart the car, does the problem go away, for a while?

If yes, then your transmission inhibitor switch is faulty.

Check your dash and see if the " PRND" are visible when you move the gears. Those indicators are not visible during the issue.

Most times the gears don't jump, the gears shift smoothly for a while and jumps from 6th to 4 when driving for a while. If i move from auto gate to manual gate ,I see 4.Switch off and restart and the problem goes away for a while and returns. Fearful for damage to transmission at higher speeds...P<R<N<D visible at all times

Hello all. Anyone ever sorted out the oil in the intake leading to the turbo? Mechanic opened the filler cap and saw white steam comming out. He said that i need to change the rings. Apart from that, the van works great.
