Now that is a great piece of equipment. I already have a digital 4ch oscope, but I wouldnt mind getting this.

Question, how would impedance affect this, looking at the subwoofer only..

Lets say your box is tuned 40Hz, the amp might clip at volume 50 with a 40Hz tone, BUT may clip at volume 45 with a 50Hz tone.. We know that the impedance of an enclosure is lowest at the tuning frequency and then starts to rise from there..

The device looks like a good compromise on frequency ranges, one for mids, one for bass.
For the advanced users, an oscope would be more handy especially when tuning for what you mentioned, including enclosure efficiency.

As he demonstrated with the headunit, various frequencies can clip the device at different levels, which can bring about a concern for when tuning highs (in a 3 way system), or midbass (in a 4 way system) with just 2 out of band frequencies available.

I would like to understand a bit more about how the device works.

I see a big hoorah on DIYMA people claiming you can use a pocket o-scope for $80USD and get a more accurate setting

My question is aren't all those things (o-scope and SMD device) based on using specific frequencies, seeing most if not all of us listen to music which is dynamic, wouldn't setting gains using a fixed frequency as reference cause inevitable clipping at some point?

Do a a little more research into what an o-scope (oscilloscope) actually does. It's not the same. It's a tool that can be used, with a much wider frequency range than the SMD device.
