Premier League - Ferguson, Vidic win season awards
Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson and Nemanja Vidic have won the Barclays Premier League manager and player of the season awards.United boss Ferguson, 69, has been rewarded for guiding a team many thought would struggle this season to the Premier League title and a Champions League final against Barcelona.
It is United's - and Ferguson's - 12th Premier League triumph, and a record 19th overall top-flight title for the club. It is Ferguson's ninth such award.
Serbia centre-half Vidic, 29, has been a key player for the club, making more league appearances than any other team-mate this season (35) and scoring five goals in the process.
It is the second time Vidic has won the award, which is voted for by representatives of football's governing bodies, the media and supporters.
United sealed the title with a 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers last weekend, although their 2-1 win over closest rivals Chelsea the previous weekend effectively won them the league.
They face Barcelona in a Wembley final on May 28 as they bid to win their fourth European Cup.

Edwin Van der Sar has recommended his own successor for the Manchester United goalkeeping job.
And he’s named the man who followed him into the Holland national team - Ajax star Maarten Stekelenburg.
Ajax were stunned last Friday when Stekelenburg rejected the chance to become their highest paid player when he turned down a new four year contract worth £60,000 a-week. His current deal has one year to run.
The growing belief in Holland is that Stekelenburg, 28, will wait for the chance to join United and will be allowed to move for around £6 million this summer.
That makes him better value for money that United’s two other goalkeeping targets - David de Gea of Atletico Madrid and Schalke’s Manuel Neuer.
Stekelenburg does not want to fall out with the Ajax hierarchy now. Rob Jansen, his agent, said: “It is clear Maarten is now focussing on a bigger league and a bigger club. He is ready for a big move.
“He will have one more meeting with Ajax and listen to what they want to offer him. He has always been happy at Ajax and that means a lot to him. But it is clear that bigger clubs are on the horizon.’’
Van der Sar sat in the stands at Ewood Park yesterday as United clinched their 12th Premier League title. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson wants to ensure he’s ready for United’s Champions League final clash with Barcelona on May 28.
Van der Sar said: “I’ve had trouble with my elbow for a while. It was better not to take any more risks so close to the European final.
“It’s such a shame I could not play in the Blackburn game. It was a massive game. But maybe it is better this way. It is better for the team and the club.’’
Regarding Van der Sar’s fitness fight, manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Edwin has even had an injection in his elbow and now he has to to rest for a number of days. All this is necessary, so he can be fit in the final week of the season. I want to make sure he can play in the champions League final.

Just goes to show you how deep-rooted the club is. Past-players never forget where they came from and what they belong to.
