It's a scanned image of a picture of an old car.
I would suspect high image compression was used as well.

so not even you could be certain then?

similar looking era cars........... yes, but some features do stand out.
but the only thing missing on the dkw from that pic, would seem to be the vents alongside the bonnet. any pics of it from the other side?

Seeing another potential. 1954 Lancia D50 formula 1

Three ducts (one hidden) suggest at least a 6 cylinder engine. Body style suggest early european gp car. The oval duct front and the helmet, rims, suggest fifties time period as most had grills in the forties, and then went to rear engines in the sixties.............to me, it looks like a 1950's style Ferrari F1 car...

hmm.........since none of the 'wallers glory days experts' want to come in here, here it is:
built in the 1950s by Tommy Thompson, it was known as the Thompson Special. Built from scratch here in T&T, he did everything, from tube frame chassis to hand forming the body panels. The details I have are sketchy, but I should be able to confirm later today that he was running a V8 engine
Pretty cool huh

This is genuinely interesting.
Are there any competitions today that allow cars such as these?
Are there any local examples today?

there was one of these in T&T as well....a Healey Silverstone
Healey built less than 150 of these
The local one had its fenders removed for open wheel racing, and the front was slightly modified. It was eventually taken apart and stored in a warehouse, where some genius ended up selling the aluminium bodywork for scrap....the rest of the car is now lost to history
