Footage of a tragic accident on Maracas Beach shows attempts to revive 23-year-old Javel James after he attempted to rescue others and got into difficulty himself.
According to reports, James, from Enterprise, Chaguanas, was hiking with friends and stopped at Maracas Beach.
However, upon seeing two adults and four children in difficulty in the water, he went in to help them.
Sadly, James got into difficulty himself and disappeared underwater.
Lifeguards who were on patrol at the time acted quickly to rescue the children and adults, however, James had disappeared from sight.
After searching for some time, James’ motionless body was retrieved, and attempts to resuscitate him were unfortunately unsuccessful.
An autopsy is expected to be performed on the body this week.
In a separate incident, a five-year-old boy drowned on Friday after he slipped into a flooded drain during heavy rains and was swept out to sea.

What exactly are life Guards paid to do?
Seriously are they CPR trained?
This is ridiculous

the reason they would not perform life breathing of cpr, i would suspect, is a matter of bureaucracy. depending on the time span from the time the guy disappeared to when they located his body, they probably tried on the surf board out in the water, but gave up. when they came on shore, opted to shuttle the body to the hospital. cause if they left it there, they would have to wait on police, then the DMO, and is a whole drama scenes will have to go down. when they carry the body to the hospital, the doctor there will pronounce DOA and no beat up by the police.
