Contactless/NFC payments

Postby maxtech » September 22nd, 2019, 9:30 am

Does any know is contactless payments are available in Trinidad and Tobago. Fcb seems to be looking in that direction forr credit card at least. Would be nice to have that feature on all cards. The line at the grocery would move alot quicker.

Hope this country implement this feature through out cause it's really convenient and efficient.

It's here, but roll out seems to be slow. Little Ceasars in Gulf City has the facility, IIRC it was a Scotiabank slip.

Anyone with a newer Samsung phone can use Samsung pay with their credit card, the phone does some kind of witchcraft and it works on all magnetic swipe machines.

Some cards have a paywave logo, kinda like a wifi icon. Seen them use it at a starbucks already, they just tap the card on the machine and it processes. But i think only small transactions are allowed.

The first thing we should do is force a move away from LINX. Why do we have a proprietary payment platform for 1.3m people ?

Only way that happening is if one of the 1% making a cut off we head with every transaction.

Any of the other banks adopted the acceptance of atm deposits without the use of envelopes as yet besides scotia ? I know rBC hasn’t and that’s been out so long ago . Basically they don’t want to buy a whole new atm machine

Used this in Canada, they just say 'tap', just amounts under $100. For both debit and credit cards.

You can’t get rid of kind just so

It is simply an intermediary between banks just like cirrus, plus etc

It is not a payment processor as some may think.

One of my rbc card has payWave but have never seen the icon locally, whether in the stores, or side the road to buy vegetables.

In faren, no problem as many places support it, but we (tt) seem to like long lines and waiting.
For some, that is the closest to interaction with people, they could get.

But just like "fast internet" we were more than 10 years behind the rest of the world.

Actually it's not complicated, we need to evolve from using linx.
Every thing uses NFC in Europe/UK, from the train station to the provisional stall to the buses and taxi cab.
Looks like Trinidad and Tobago choosing to stay behind time yes
