Galant GDI PROBLEMS

Postby koncerned » October 9th, 2013, 12:46 pm

I have a galant gdi and it's giving problems, it cannot accelerate over 2000rpm it's stuttering as though it's not getting gas. Can someone help?

Call this number 682-6751 ask for Alex. He is a very good mechanic when it comes to gdi and those galants. If he doesn't answer keep trying or leave a voice mail.

When last u changed your gas filter in your tank.
Most likely your fuel pump assembly clog.

sound like mass air flow sensor or coil pack once fuel is good next thing to check is air and spark.

Change the engine.

Cheaper that way.

^ ^ ^ ^ Yup, you're right. You're fuel system is dirty.

I had the same problem years ago with earlier ("shark mouth") model GDI engine... with same issues.
The problem is the high pressure fuel pressure regulator on the left (passenger) side of the cylinder head. People like to call it a high pressure fuel pump. If yours is an early model you can CAREFULLY strip, clean & replace. Unfortunately IIRC the later model regulators are "sealed".

You also have to change the fuel filter near the gas-tank. OEM Image is better than substitutes and lasts 4 or 5 times longer too... but are EXPENSIVE!!!

Do a search for "Sanctifier" and "Galant GDi" (in the Mitsubishi Forum I think.) You should find details on the cleaning process for the earlier fuel pressure regulator there.

My $0.02¢

^ I would more call it a high pressure fuel pump/regulator as it performs both functions.

op is it the green sticker or blue sticker pump/regulator?

Thing is those symptoms can be caused by many problems, maf, clogged filter under the rear right door/fender area, faulty ecu for the invecsII tranny etc.

Why not pay a small fee of $150 (approx.) and get the vehicle scanned so you could bypass a lot of the guess work. Even if it doesn't identify the exact problem it can lead you in the right direction, eg fuel delivery, a/f ratio, injector pulse and duration ecu prob etc.

Everyone can guess their heads off and it could be a stuck chubby bottle under the accelerator pedal........see what i'm getting at op?
