Great Race 2021 carded for August 21st

The long wait for Motorsport action is almost over, even if it’s for just one day. On Saturday August 21st the Trinidad & Tobago Powerboat Association’s 53rd running of ‘The T&T Great Race’ takes place. The association was pleased to receive all the necessary approvals from the government to host the annual prestigious event.  Please be advised that all necessary public health protocols must be adhered to!  

This year a possible 23 boats will face starters orders in the 60,70,80,95,120 & 130 MPH classes. The 60MPH class is due to start at 7:15am with the 130MPH boats starting at 8:00am. The 81 nautical mile course will once again run from Port of Spain, Trinidad along the north coast to Store Bay, Tobago. 

Adding to the usual banter and ‘gun talk’ between teams some other news adds to the excitement of this year’s race. Father & son team  Wayne & Morgan Honnock will be in the cockpit of ‘Iron Man’. With owner Guy Costa having other commitments the duo was given the chance to compete. Also out of the iconic Mr. Solo Too camp ,Joseph Charles, grandson of the legend Ken Charles will be making his GR debut. The biggest news is the addition of the race to the 2021 Ocean Cup Series calendar. Unfortunately, no international teams could be here in time for this year’s event, but the entire fraternity is buzzing with excitement and anticipation of a few coming in 2022, ‘Motul Monsters’ record has a target on its back! 

With Covid restrictions not allowing a boat show this year the TTPBA teamed up with its sponsors and the National Carnival Commission to host a virtual edition.  The Virtual Boat Show can be viewed using this link:

Over the last few weeks, the teams have been hard at work preparing and testing their boats.
