Engine noises heard under the hood of our cars often give us a scare! Before getting into a panic which can lead us to think our engine is malfunctioning, consider these five (5) question
1. When was your last oil change?
Usually, an oil change is done every 5000 km for mineral base stocks. On the other hand, you can obtain 8000-10000 km with synthetic base stocks, but with careful consideration of the oil filter type used, it must be able to manage the longer drain interval without degrading. Repsol Motor Oils are formulated for the most demanding applications.
2. Did the car make the total mileage?
Verify your records by months or mileage to ensure you did not cross the oil change interval.
3. Did you use or change the recommended oil grade?
Maintain using the same oil brand and oil grade for every oil change interval. Variations can be problematic because different base stocks and additives are used. In addition, using a high viscosity oil and changing to a lower viscosity oil can have issues with the engine’s performance.

4. Did your mechanic verify?
The Mechanic Shops have assistances, and an error on the oil type and grade could have occurred. Verify that the oil was changed at the shop and look for verification by other personnel or records.
5. Did you check the Base Stock used to manufacture that lubricant?
Lubricants Base Stocks are now classed as mineral, synthetic and fully synthetic. Mixing these is not advisable, mainly when different suppliers produce them. Instead, use what is stipulated by the manufacturer.
