Jaguar E Pace at Brian Lara’s Residence

Jaguar E Pace at Brian Lara’s Residence

New vehicle launches are always great events to attend.  Usually, a new car dealership will have a nice spread at their showroom, complete with a formal presentation, funky eats and drinks, and a big reveal, usually with some lovely ladies revealing the featured vehicle from under a shimmering car cover.

Trafalgar Motors went a very different route this time around, for the launch of the Jaguar E-Pace on Sunday, June 24.  In keeping with the image of the Jaguar brand, the E-Pace was launched at sunset, on the greens at Brian Lara’s residence, Knaggs Hill, Port of Spain.  Cars & Coffee TT were invited to cover the event, so we put on our fancy shirts and headed west from Wallerfield.

Lucky invited guests were shuttled valet-style from the Emperor Valley Zoo car park to Mr. Lara’s residence, and spent an afternoon mingling, sipping premium drinks, and sampling select hors-d’oeuvres.  Brian Lara himself was on hand to greet guests, pose for photo ops, and engage in conversation, much to everyone’s delight.

The overcast skies and intermittent rains did little to dampen spirits and with a break in the afternoon showers, the covers were withdrawn to reveal the red ‘First Edition’ Jaguar E-Pace.  Guests spent the afternoon checking out the various luxury features, trying the seats for fit and comfort, and posing for photos with Jaguar’s new compact SUV.

We especially liked the clean dash layout, with a touchscreen handling most of the standard stuff.  We’d imagine the steering wheel controls would take some getting used to, with quite a few buttons to play with.  Jaguar has managed to incorporate the traditional passenger grab handle into the centre console design without it being intrusive. The fully adjustable seats were on the firm side of comfortable, no doubt owing to the sporting nature of the marque.

Externally as with pretty much every Jaguar ever made, the rear end is gorgeous, with those now iconic E-Type inspired tail lights reminding you what vehicle you’re following.  It’s challenging to make a compact SUV look distinctive nowadays, but Ian Callum sums it up by stating, “We designed the E-PACE to be a Jaguar for active people who need space and practicality, but see no reason to compromise on performance. Its proportions, stance and lines express this as a driver’s car, while the interior offers true Jaguar levels of luxury and sportiness”  We agree with Mr. Callum.
