NLCB x LiquiMoly: TTPBA Regatta #1

NLCB x LiquiMoly: TTPBA Regatta #1

What can I say, Happy New Year to All…..yes it’s February but it’s the first racing event on the 2019 calendar for me and I hope the year treats us all well. The folks of the TTPBA held it’s first regatta for the 2019 season and as you could tell by the title……the National Championship for this year is sponsored by the NLCB. This first event, the kind folks at Liqui Moly have taken hold of proceedings. I’m guessing you shouldn’t gamble with your oil….hmmm.

A new race course was to be had, giving the spectators a greater viewing of all the day’s racing. A somewhat kinked triangle mostly infront the jetty of the TTYC ensuring you don’t miss anything. This event was also live streamed and by the end of it all, 4,000 folks from around the world tuned in to watch. Also, the Coast Guard was hand to help man the event and we tip our cap to them.

To the action, and the field for this first event was a small one, 6 boats. Mr. Solo Too suffered engine issues in testing the day before, and a couple others cancelled their plans last minute. But no biggy, there was some tight racing to be had and after the Soka crowd had completed their arrivals, we got down to just that. Heatwave and Papi Chulo doing the honours. Energiza had 95mph to herself, as did Iron Man in 130mph, sporting a painted back hull and canopy. Can’t wait to see what the new scheme would be like. Extreme Measures and Trident were lonely in their classes as well but most importantly for all, points to start the year. Points that could prove vital for the overall championship.

A special welcome to the new Exco of the TTPBA for 2019, led by Marcus Gomez as president and I wish them well in making this season a success. The next event is carded for the 24th March and with more boats expected to be out, this course should lend itself to some great side by side and cat and mouse racing.

….till next time.
