One of the most anticipated parts of any Rally Trinidad event, is the arrival and clearing of the containers that hold the overseas competitors’ cars.
Stuart McChlery MK1 Escort
Today was no different, as all the cars were cleared this afternoon near the MOSport Bar. The three cars from neighbour Barbados were up first. The first sighting being that of the MKI of Stuart McChlery sharing a space with the Grp N Subaru of Andrew Mallalieu. The third held the Peugeot 206 of Wayne Archer.
That first scent of race fuel as a container door opens…is like walking thru the door to your mother’s freshly baked home made bread…..ssssnnniiffff……aaaahhhhhh…!
Frank Kelly’s “Baby Blue”
A short break ensued and then the Irish were next to be released. The 40′ holding the MKII Escort of Paul Fitzgerald and the Toyota Starlet of Shane McGgirr were first out. Trinidad’s favourite Irish son, Frank Kelly, coveted “Baby Blue” was the last to come out. I would like to apologise for the lack of pics for its removal but I can’t drive and shoot pics at the same time…..and to be honest, I not really apologising.
With the cars out, the teams can now in earnest start to prepare for this weekend’s epic 2 days of rallying. Many teams were out today doing pace notes, I myself was in the mix and should be back out again before the Friday’s start for the rally. Overseas tuner are also in the country giving cars their last tune in what will be a keenly contested event. It’s anyone’s rally to win….
