TTASA Circuit Racing Event #1 2021

The Trinidad and Tobago Automobile Sport Association, held their first competition event since early 2020 on Sunday 14th February, 2021. In an attempt to safely restart motorsport, TTASA has been working with different Ministries to reintroduce motorsport via controlled sessions, meaning limited competitors, no spectators, mandatory masks, temperature checks and data collection for contact tracing. In addition to this, sanitization stations were placed around the venue and competitors and their teams were encouraged to frequently sanitize.

However, while the reintroduction to motorsport was slow- the action on track as anything but! Competitors contested Group 1, 2, 4 and Time Attack, in addition to this the drivers of the Caribbean Spec Miata Series, had their first taste of official competition.

In Group 1, it was the hungry pack of Honda Civics fighting themselves but in the end it was Brandon Singh, claiming a hat-trick of wins in all three heats placing at the top of the podium in class. Trailing behind was Darrel and Bridget in similar Honda Civics trailing behind.

Group 2 and Group 4 action, saw a combination of new and returning competitors, Dr. Mark Williams also with a hat trick of wins. Returning competitor Ronney Seepersad in second, and Aamir Mohammed in third after being plagued with drive train issues.

The Miata competition saw yet another Singh- this time Ravi at the top fighting off a trailing Cristian Bourne and Ronald Wortman, ending his day 16 points ahead of the nearest team.

Time Attack action saw many vehicles of different variations all battle to be the fastest they can be within an eight-minute window. In the end it was Ismail Hosein, with a 47.193s lap time in his Nissan Lucino, to take the title of fastest Time Attack of the day.
