TTASA hosts first ever eSports Sim’ Racing Cup in T&T

The Trinidad & Tobago Automobile Sports Association (TTASA) through a directive from the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), of which TTASA is the Motorsport ASN for T&T, is hosting an online simulator racing series locally. This while the physical race track at Wallerfield remains closed due to Covid-19 prevention measures. TTASA has taken the opportunity to launch its TTASA eSports initiative which will add another motorsports discipline, in this case Simulator Racing, to its portfolio.

One of the key features of this TTASA series is that the entire thing works remotely and complies with the FIA’s #RaceAtHome initiative. The entire series and live stream will run with everyone being safe in their own homes, practicing social distancing and being safe. Each driver, each marshal, each steward, each technical team member, the race director, operator, graphics and IT person is in their own home and all this will be remotely put together and streamed to you LIVE!

The TTASA GT Sport Digital Cup SIM Racing Competition will start on Wednesday May 27th with Qualifying rounds and work its way to the Finals on Saturday June 6th 2020. The event is title sponsored by Motul with GarageFresh, TriniTuner.com and Trap-Speed-Simulators T&T as additional sponsors.

Sim Racing is already a popular sport worldwide and the FIA has already used this platform to continue events such as Formula 1 and World Rally Championship (WRC) featuring their real world drivers. In T&T sim racing is also popular with large groups of competitors having their own racing and meets online over the past few years.

Gran Turismo Sport sim racing game which is available solely on the PlayStation platform is certified by the FIA. This circuit racing simulator is used to host official FIA GT Sport tournaments worldwide with some of the top drivers eventually moving over to real world motor racing. The FIA therefore suggested that TTASA, as its Motorsport ASN in T&T, also use the Gran Turismo Sport platform to host its own eSports racing locally here in Trinidad & Tobago.

The TTASA GT Sport Digital Cup SIM Racing Competition is open to all members and non-members of TTASA over the age of 15 years. Registration and cost to compete in this first series is absolutely free of charge. Competitors can register using the online registration form at https://bit.ly/ttasa-esports.
