TTASA Returns to Wallerfield

The Trinidad and Tobago Automobile Sport Association (TTASA) hosted their inaugural event at the now permanent home for motorsport, the Wallerfield International Raceway (WIR) on Sunday 30th September, 2018.

This inaugural event aimed to provide our competitors, supporters and management with an opportunity to become reacquainted with the Wallerfield International Raceway, after a pause in events while negotiations were ongoing. Though not in the form of a competition, this event followed the structure of an exhibition, therefore allowing drivers, riders, drifters and go-karters to have multiple individual sessions to enjoy their respective disciplines while showcasing the sport to many spectators- new and old. A lengthy day’s schedule not only facilitated various motorsport clubs but also Trini Moms Health and Fitness’s 5k run.

An opening speech by TTASA’s President Fyzool Madan addressed the racing fraternity, club sponsors, spectators, media, members and fellow management. The President’s speech recollected his earlier days in motorsport and Wallerfield through the years. The future of Wallerfield was also mentioned as he thanked the Honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Ms. Shamfa Cudjoe and Honorable Minister of Trade and Investment, Mrs. Paula Gopee-Scoon for having open communication with TTASA and working towards the betterment of motorsport in Trinidad and Tobago. It was also mentioned that permissions were acquired for running water and electricity to the Raceway.

Following the speech, the track was opened via a ribbon cutting ceremony and drivers were invited to go out in groups of their various disciplines to do their displays. The drifters formed a small fun activity among themselves, as they made use of a speed gun provided by Drive Style to see which driver had the fastest entry speed into the top corner. Other members found themselves in the greens alongside the pit area to participate in an all clubs cookout, which was judged later on in the day.

TTASA would like to thank eTecK, the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Investment, Trinidad and Tobago Karting Association, Trinidad and Tobago Drift Association, Trinidad and Tobago Rally Club, sponsors, media, and members for making this inaugural event a success.
