TTKA Karting Event #6 2019

TTKA Karting Event #6 2019

The Trinidad and Tobago Karting Association took to the Wallerfield Circuit again this past weekend for event 6 of their 2019 Championship Series. The event featured their three main classes Sportsman, Rotax International and Sportsman Masters, along with their new Junior Driver Program hosting its first event of the year.
The newly introduced Junior Driver Program allowed 6 drivers the opportunity to race the Wallerfield Circuit for two heats and a final, utilising the clubs newly acquired junior rental karts. The day was dominated by young Noah De Gannes who from toped the leaderboards in the two heats and the final to claim the title of Junior Driver of the day. Rounding off the podium were brothers Saeed Mohammed and  Siddiq Mohammed in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
With the Junior Driver Program completed, the Sportsman class took to qualifying and championship contender Shane Sheppard topped the timing sheets and would go on to secure a 2 race wins and a third place finish, securing the overall win on the day. Rossi Lochan recovered from a fifth place finish in the first heat and secured two 2nd place finishes, which ended his day in the 2nd position overall. Rounding off the podium was Rylie Ramroop sporting his new race colours after some track time overseas. These results, therefore, mean that Shane Sheppard has now taken the championship lead over Scott Wortman, who I’m sure will be eager to remedy his performances to take the fight to the end of the season.
In the Rotax International, Isa Deen stated his claim from the qualifying session, topping the timing sheets and winning two out of three races, meant he would end the day on the top step of the podium. Dillon Ali followed Isa closely all day but wasn’t able to get the better of him and with two commendable second-place finishes, he ended the day on the second step of the podium, with the new championship leader Matthew Singh rounding off the podium in 3rd. With three more events to go and the leaderboard as close as it is the Rotax International class will be a fight to the finish.
In the Sportsman Masters class, Barry Rostant took the overall win, qualifying pole and securing a race win and two second place finishes, allowed him to stand on the top step of the podium for the first time this season. Nicholas Gomes continued his quest to close the gap on the championship leader and finished the day in 2nd position with a race win and a third place finish. Ronald Wortman rounded off the podium in 3rd place though, ensuring that his lead remained in tact as the season nears the end. The masters class continues to grow in size as new drivers Jason Reece and Jon Rostant took to the track for the first time.
The TTKA’s next event is scheduled for October 13th at the Wallerfield International Raceway and with the championship heating up as it is, you won’t want to miss it.
