TTKA Karting Event #7 2019

TTKA Karting Event #7 2019

This past weekend the members of the Trinidad and Tobago Karting Association took to the Wallerfield Circuit to host event 7 of their 2019 Championship Series. With 38 competitor karts attacking the track the day was filled with close battles along with some spills and thrills.

First on the agenda was the newly introduced Junior Program. 6 Drivers took to the course in the TTKA’s Junior Rental Karts, with broad smiles the where allowed to drive the race circuit seeking the best lap time they can achieve to move them forward to the final. At the end of 3 heats and the final young lady racer, Naiomi Garcia topped the timesheets followed by returning winner Noah De Gannes and Zoey Garcia rounded off the podium in third.

Next up the Sportsman drivers took to the track for qualifying and little did we know the day would have ended just the way it started. Shane Sheppard took pole position and two race wins on the day. Scott Wortman did all he can to keep himself within striking distance of the championship with three 2nd place finishes. Rossi Lochan followed the top two closely and ended the race day in third overall with a first-place finish in heat 1, with arguably the best move of the day, and two 3rd place finishes. Liam Bartlet and Noah Walker returned to competition and finished 4th and 5th respectively, Jonathan Aqui struggled with issues throughout the day which saw him finished 6th.

The Rotax International drivers took to the track next and veteran Ryan Peyrau dominated from the first green flag to the checkered, Ryan achieved a perfect race day with pole position, three race wins and the current track record of 30.786. Christopher Ramnauth returned to the podium and regained the championship lead with two 2nd place finishes on the day. Dillon Ali rounded off the podium in third with 2nd and 3rd place finishes on the day. With the Rotax International Championship as close as it all the drivers will be busy prepping their equipment and reviewing their performances to ensure a spot on the podium is theirs at the end of the season.

Sportsman Masters boasted the largest field of the day with 14 drivers in competition. Ronald Wortman started the day in front qualifying on pole position and winning the first heat and securing the 3rd place finish in the final meant he ended the day in the third potion overall. Brent Russell finished in second position overall with consistent results throughout the day his 2nd and 3rd place finishes in heat 2 and the final allowed him to gain invaluable points. But winning the race day was a familiar face to the podium, Nicholas Gomes ensured that he stayed out of trouble all day and with a 3rd place finish in heat 1 and a win in the final he was able to stand out from the field and stand on the top step of the podium.

Between races, the club also allowed Junior Drivers the opportunity to get some track time in as they get prepared for the new Sportsman Junior category which is poised to be the new entry-level class for young drivers getting into karting. The class should allow for seamless, inexpensive transitioning to the Sportsman category and will be an exciting new class to see run.

The TTKA’s next event is scheduled for November 3rd at the Wallerfield International Race Way and with the championship this close, you don’t recommend you miss it.
