TTKA Karting Event #8 2019

TTKA Karting Event #8 2019

The members of the Trinidad and Tobago Karting Association took to the Wallerfield Circuit to host the penultimate event of their 2019 Championship Series. With fully subscribed classes attacking the track the day was filled with close battles to gain those last few championship points.

First on the agenda was the Junior Program. 7 Drivers took to the course in the TTKA’s Junior Rental Karts, with broad smiles the where allowed to drive the race circuit seeking the best lap time they can achieve to move them forward to the final. Young Noah De Gannes continued to impress and topped the timesheets.

The first competition class was upon us and the Sportsman drivers took to the track. Scott Wortman drew first blood as he seeks to close the gap on leader Shane Sheppard. But it was young Rylie Ramroop who stole the show, with two first-place finishes on the day he took to the top step of the podium followed by Championship leader Shane Sheppard who cruised through the day with 2 second-place finishes and a third. Rossi Lochan continued his consistent run of form and completed the podium in third place.

The always entertaining Rotax International drivers took to the track next and Ryan Peyrau continued to show his experience over the young field, Ryan achieved another perfect race day with pole position and three race wins. Christopher Ramnauth maintained his slim championship lead over Matthew Singh with two second-place finishes and a third.  Dillon Ali rounded off the podium after a post-race protest saw Matthew Singh docked a position in the final. With the Championship still see-sawing the drivers will be busy prepping their equipment to ensure a spot on the podium is theirs at the end of the season.

Sportsman Masters continued to entertain. With championship leader Ronald Wortman missing this race day all drivers were eager to secure valuable championship points going into the last event. Nicholas Gomes took full advantage of this and produced a stellar performance qualifying on pole and winning two of three races on the day. Brent Russell secured the second step of the podium with a maiden win and some consistent driving throughout the day. In the third position stood Michael Ross who is one of the newer drivers to the field, and arguably one of the drivers to look out for next season.

The TTKA’s grand finale is scheduled for December 1st at the Wallerfield International Raceway. With all class championships yet to be decided on that day, it’s all most certain the wheel to wheel action will be scintillating to watch.
