TTRC Rally #6 – Action returns to Bronte

Rally Action returned to the Bronte Stage on the 19th September 2010 and TTRC opted to run the same stage configuration as the previous event, Bronte Chiller. With the odd light shower cooling the action throughout the day, it was John “Penti” Powell once again taking the overall in his Shell Helix, Intercontinental Shipping sponsored Group N Mit. Evo IX. He was chased all day by “Mr. Action” Ainsely Lochan in his Ultra/Stag/Josef’s Grp. A Mit. Evo IX. Powell gave Lochan a glimmer of hope when one of the turbo hoses blew off during the 2nd to last stage but then drove like a man with his hair on fire on the last stage day, Powell himself stated during the prize giving, that he was impressed the car took the punishment his right foot was giving.

Keen battles were seen in all classes with only 2 cars retiring due to mechanical issues. Resident Jamaican Bobby “Ricky Bobby” Marshall, in his Singer Mit. Cyborg ,took overall in 2wd beating out Rezan Mohammed in his Shell Helix/Vigourade Mit. Cyborg, the latter surely wondering what he has to do to best the Jamaican.

With some sad news, Barry Mckenzie retired his rally car, the infamous Mit. Evo VI PBJ 61, first campaigned by former rally driver Peter Morris. Many local fans will remember the Evo being first painted to match the livery of the international rally car used by Tommi Makinen. The car changed colours as it changed hands and is a past winner of both Rally Trinidad and the inaugural Rally Tobago.  Barry has promised to returned to the rally stage in a new car but for the fear of being shot, I could only tell you it’s RWD……yes…Barry in a RWD car…!!

The Rally Finale will be held on the 23rd October at the Preysal Stage, TTRC’s unofficial home, and will be a day/night event. Coolers, cameras, umbrellas and insect repellent are a must….see you there..!
