TTRC Special Stages Championship Rally - Sunday 6th. August 2000

Results for the TTRC (Trinidad & Tobago Rally Club) Special Stages Rally are in.
Congratulations are in order for two drivers that were particularly impressive, not because there was any doubt in their ability, but lets just say that credit should be given where it is due. Roger Williams and his navigator Davindra Nath put down some killer times and took second place overall ahead of Erica and Michael Dinnoo in third. Roger finished first in his class and first in his group.

Wallerfield saw the debut of Classic Motor's Type R Honda Civic on the rally circuit. The unregistered car was driven by Rikkard Asbjornsen and co-piloted by Yuri Mulchansingh, the owner of the Climate Controlled Civic dragster. It was the first time that these men teamed up and competed together and it is commendable that on their first outing they managed to finish fourth overall, first in their class and second in their group. Rikkard is confident that he could do better, admitting that he spun the car on every stage after lunch, losing at least 15 seconds each time.

The other big story involves Peter Morris. This rally marked the end of a chapter in Peter's racing history. During the lunch break, Peter agreed to sell his EVO I to the Flying Dutchman, Eric De Haas, who will compete with that car as early as the 31st August 2000 at Wallerfield during the next Stages Rally. Peter managed to finish this rally in first place a full 3mins 46secs ahead of his closest competitor. The Independance Day Special Stages Rally should see the debut of Peter's spanking new EVO VI. With Peter and Dutchman battling for top honours, race fans are in for some spectacular driving, especially since both drivers use different driving techniques.

Talking about spectacular, Wayne Persad came out on a mission to thrill the crowd.
Mission Accomplished breds!!!
Depending on where you stood you would have heard different opinions ranging from: "dat man could REAL drive dread!" to "dat man ent learn how to drive that EVO yet...". Personally we think its a shame that people without a car or racing experience can be allowed to have a 'sound' opinion about racing; this blasted democracy allows too many freedoms - What you think boy, Castro?

Wayne kept his car in a four wheel drift for about 8 seconds, setting up for the first right hander at the "double-bend", then he did the same thing when he came around for the second turn on the continuous corner. No one came close to thrilling the crowd as much as he did. Video footage of this will be available soon. Unfortunately Wayne could not complete the rally because of tyre problem.

Another casualty was Gerald Carrington and Darryl Chang in their Suzuki Swift. Colin Khan and Richard Ramsingh in their Datsun 120Y were testing new aerodynamics with no windscreen, front or rear. They finished 6th overall, but had no problems with overheating. Don't you think that its time to see them in a rally prepped Primera?

Special thanks to Shelford Robinson for the rally results and congratulations also for finishing 5th overall, first in his group and second in his class. We are very impressed with the TTRC's efforts in promoting rallying as effectively as they have been able to do with limited resources.
