The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) has forwarded its findings in the police-involved shooting in Second Caledonia, Morvant on June 27 to the Office of the Director of Prosecution (DPP) for further action

In that incident, Joel Jacob, Noel Diamond and Israel Moses Clinton were shot by members of the T&T Police Service.

The PCA said after analysis of the evidence gathered by its investigators, the information was sent to the DPP, pursuant to Section 30 (1) of the PCA Chap. 15:05 which states, “The Authority may conduct a preliminary investigation to assist it to identify whether or not there is conduct to justify a more complete investigation under the Act, or refer it to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Commissioner or the Commission for further action,”

A release from the PCA stated: "Our investigations and recommendations should provide assurance to both the public and police that deaths or serious injuries that happen during or following police contact would be properly handled."

The incident, which sparked days of protests in Morvant and parts of east Port-of-Spain, took place at around 2.15 pm when officers from the Port of Spain Divisio on patrol along Juman Drive, Second Caledonia, stopped a Nissan Tiida vehicle which was occupied by three men.

Police claimed a man in the back seat of the car came out of the vehicle and opened fire on the officers who returned fire, hitting all three men.

aren't you supposed to try to de-escalate? By grabbing the guy, who was already clearly heated, the end result was bound to happen. Will be interesting to see how this is dealt with in the courts

He could take that charge but the cop assaulted him first. So I am interested to see what a magistrate/judge has to say on this if they also charge him for assaulting an officer and/or resisting arrest

I forgot to ask. What is the law regarding the recording of police officers? (as apparently this officer stated that it is illegal to do such).
