Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook issues

Anyone else having problems with images and voice notes in WhatsApp this morning? Instagram also seems to be having problems with images.

WhatsApp appears to have stopped working, with users unable to send some messages.

While text appears to work, photos, videos and voice messages will not send through, according to various reports.

Instead, users just see a message reading "download failed" and the content will not arrive.

The same error message advises users to ask for the picture to be sent over again. But doing so does not seem to work.

Unusually, a preview of the picture does appear to be able to get through. It means that recipients can see a version of the pictures that are being sent – but it is fuzzy and the details cannot be seen.

who is your IP? Over your home WiFi? It suddenly started happening with no changes to your router settings?

Unfortunately with the dismantling of Net Neutrality in effect, companies can choose to block certain VOIP protocols to international numbers and force you to make the call through their telephone network so they can make money. Ironically, they themselves use mostly VOIP to connect to other international exchanges these days. This is why people were campaigning hard for net neutrality but unfortunately lost to lobbyists and their corporation handlers because $$$$$.

WiFi Whatsapp calling effectively gives you free calls anywhere in the world from your mobile phone and telecoms don't like that at all. If this is really the issue you will have to use a VPN to encrypt your connection to solve this issue. Or use Skype, but they can block those protocols as well if they wanted.

Try it with someone else's WiFi at a different location when you can, and you would know if that's really the issue, or if it's just your home connection. If it's your home, do a full hard reset and power cycle of the white box modem with the button in the back. Press and hold the button with a pen nib for 30 seconds will erase everything to factory defaults. It takes like 5 minutes to reset so have patience.
