WTK X-ray Technician -Diagnostic Imaging career

Postby Mirage » May 16th, 2020, 7:56 pm

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knows about the ( X-ray technician ) BSc Diagnostic Imaging/BSc Radiography program in UWI/ COSTAATT? How good is it? What is the career outlook like?

Also, what is the salary range for this occupation? I know an exact salary might be hard to say but a ballpark figure would be good.

Decent program, but not a whole lot of work opportunities available locally in the private or public sector unless you start your own clinic/practice, and that has its risks and costs in itself.
Career wise, depends on what you plan on studying AFTER that to advance your career, if you intend to remain in T&T, working in public sector or private, how much risk you willing to accept, and other factors.
But generally speaking, if you feel you able and you have the programs entry requirements, go for it. There's been something of a shortage in the field for some time now, but be advised that there's reasons for that.

pm for details or if you have questions.

Class was filled since I started costaatt in mount hope about 15 years ago and always was filled. Not all make it though as most say it's tough but tough depends on the person because we have a generation of weeklings.
From 05 till now that's a lot of graduates so gauge how much graduates per year to job vacancy ratio.

Also, been seeing a lot of younger techs out here meaning most positions filled.

That and if you wanna get into it, at least have an idea what a human skeleton looks like. Dont make the patient have to tell you that you don't know your a$$ to your elbow.

Why is there an aversion towards Costatt? Is the quality of the teaching not good? Are there issues with the facilities?

No one saying anything about the specific course which seems a bit weird . Call out the deficiencies and hopefully that helps to get it fixed . Otherwise present the pros and cons for OP to decide . Just now people might say not to do a course because it too ‘ hard ‘

Can you elaborate?

Most people don't appreciate it and fuss over all the "unnecessary courses" they add-in. As a graduate, I can tell you nobody fuss more than me.

Costaatt is an institution that doesn't just run a course and say later. They add in a lot of other courses to make you a well-rounded graduate. I did my associate degree there and my bachelor's degree as well. With all I learnt I ended up in fields that have very little to do with what I majored in but it helped me to be better than the competition.

Could be that I learnt and didn't just do it for the pass mark to GTFO as well so I dunno. It's really up to the individual and how they see it.

Same thing I’m saying it’s just too ‘ hard ‘ for some people and they think no one can manage

The field is fairly saturated. Most Radiographers are now getting 2-6 months contract.
