The case fatality rate for a potentially more virulent strain in Seychelles is likely 12% of the CFR in Trinidad. The probable differentiator is the vaccination of the population.

You are not correcting for the proportion of the population, Seychelles is 90K ppl while T&T is 1.4M. Plus the Delta variant is more virulent than our Gamma variant.

i was now going to comment on that. As well as the size of the country. Seychelles got 657 new cases yesterday and there population is 90k and most of them have been vaccinated. Why is it that the case numbers so high? The vaccine not working awa? To add on to this, Seychelles just over the land size and pop size of tobago but tobago ain't getting those kinda numbers and the vaccination in Tobago is nowhere close to Seychelles.

The difference is in Seychelles no vaccinated ppl are dying.

yea that's the pattern. it seems to lessen the severity of disease, but vaccinated persons are still becoming infected and spreading that infection. so the concept of 'herd immunity' -- i.e., conferring protection to the unvaccinated population -- does not happen in those countries.

they have had a few deaths (even recently) though. However, there total number of deaths is quite low. My argument is just that the vaccine is not this magical cure-all that is being touted. We still do not know the long-term side effects of it. So people within there rights to not accept it. Remember the vaccines are for emergency use. They still have not gone through the stages (like long-term risk assessment) that would justify mandatory vaccination.

Vaccine was never meant to stop you getting it, it is to lessen the symptoms, stop you going to the hospital and hopefully stop people dying.

here's a scary theory. the sinopharm vaccinated persons drop their guard, stop wearing masks (or start back wearing masks on chin), start going to bars, fetes, basically acting like they are immune to the virus and throw the mother of all carnivals and kill a set of people with a massive outbreak.

No vaccine is 100% effective and should be touted as a magical cure-all.

What is clear, is that vaccines are by far the best weapon we have against Covid, and the more people take it, the better the chance of surviving an infection and returning to normal.

If everyone vaccinated, the "outbreak" will be muted and symptoms minimal. The unvaccinated should not be palancing because of the clear risk.

the reality is not everyone will be vaccinated tho. you'll end up in a situation like the Seychelles unless there's public adherence to masking, social distancing, preventing large gatherings even among the vaccinated.

the only exception as far as been those countries that have vaccines with super-high efficacy, like the USA and Israel.

Why are they still spreading the infection?

Aren’t they supposed to be following the protocols?

dais the fear. people who get their sinopharm would refused to wear mask or get slack about wearing mask and turn into carriers/superspreaders to the unvaccinated population. and then outbreak like Bahrain, Seychelles, Chile, etc.

Disclosure of procurement price of China's Sinopharm vaccine in Sri Lanka has sparked a row after reports emerged that Colombo had to shell out a higher per-dose price than its fellow South Asian country Bangladesh.

According to the Daily Mirror, Sri Lanka is paying $15 per dose for the Sinopharm vaccine, which is USD 5 higher than what Bangladesh paid.

We will have to resort to 3rd booster shots for all Sinopharm vaccinated people using Pfizer or Moderna. And this is not due to waning antibodies after some time but the fact that they NEVER had good protection to begin with in terms of infection, or even against hospitalization. So maybe 3 months after the 2nd Sinopharm dose take a Pfizer once we get those.

New reports from Astrazeneca studies.

https://www.astrazeneca.com/media-centr ... riant.html
Real-world data demonstrated 92% vaccine effectiveness against hospitalisations due to the Delta variant

New data from Public Health England (PHE) demonstrated COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca offers high levels of protection against the Delta variant (B.1.617.2; formerly the ‘Indian’ variant).

Real world data from PHE, published as a pre-print, demonstrated two doses of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca are 92% effective against hospitalisation due to the Delta variant and showed no deaths among those vaccinated. The vaccine also showed a high level of effectiveness against the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7; formerly the ‘Kent’ variant) with an 86% reduction of hospitalisations and no deaths reported.

The data suggest that vaccine effectiveness against milder symptomatic disease, although significant, was lower. Vaccine effectiveness against symptomatic disease was 74% against the Alpha variant and 64% against the Delta variant.

The higher efficacy against severe disease and hospitalisation is supported by recent data showing strong T-cell response to COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca, which should correlate with high and durable protection.1

Mene Pangalos, Executive Vice President, BioPharmaceuticals R&D, said: “This real world evidence shows that COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca provides a high level of protection against the Delta variant, which is currently a critical area of concern given its rapid transmission. The data show that the vaccine will continue to have a significant impact around the world given that it continues to account for the overwhelming majority of supplies to India and the COVAX facility.”

The embassy website also announces President Joe Biden's commitment to deliver 500 million vaccines to low-income nations via COVAX, but Trinidad and Tobago does not qualify under that scheme.

Trinidad and tobago has to pay for vaccines through covax. There are low income countries that do not have to pay. So Trinidad will not get vaccines that the US donate to covax. We already got our vaccine gift from the us
