yeah it look like the money is back. weird though.

Huh? That worked? How? Major Tom can you explain please?
Redmanjp, can your phone limit data usage after a certain set amount? I do this on my phone the few times I purchase a data plan (from Bmobile). I can set a warning limit when the phone just notifies me and a maximum limit when the phone will notify me and stop using data. I always set the max limit to a bit below the amount that I purchased, just in case the phone does not count accurately.

Airplane mode sends a ping signal to the tower that it's turning off the radio. The cells tower notes your location and expects a new location when you reconnect so discards the current data settings that has been passively pinging between your phone and network towers. These pings are using a LTE data protocol because you were on a data plan, and when it expired it simply switched to pay-as-you-go @ $2/MB. So the system keeps charging rates.

Turning off airplane mode starts an active ping and the cell tower gives you new connection settings. The cell towers system would realize with this forced change that LTE data transmission is now off and switch back to the GSM protocol to ping your location and handshake. Your cell phone SIM account then audits and updates itself regarding expiration of the data plan and when it ended and disregards those passive pings and the data sent over them so you get back the credit. If you actively used internet data while the plan expired like Whatsapp or Google it wouldn't work.
Interesting. Thank you for the explanation.

:?:
When will eSIMs be made available to customers?
eSIMs will be officially launched on July 14, 2023.
:?:

The cost of the eSIM is TT$50.00. VAT is not applicable on eSIMs.

They need to offer this service online or through an app. Nobody should have to go to a store to activate this.

Ikr. It’s ridiculous. Digicel is doing the same - but even worse, they’re not giving u the QR code… so if u change phone is have to go in each time. Hopefully bmobile doesn’t do this and atleast give you the QR

If you upgrade to an eSIM it will be LTE compatible out of the box. If you're talking about upgrading your regular SIM to an LTE SIM then you probably should upgrade it.

Looks so. The page mentions QR codes a couple times.

Looks so. I swapped today - works well. I also received the QR Code so I can re-scan on a new phone easily. They however they did warn me that they’re having issues getting iMessage and FaceTime to activate using phone numbers at the moment so I think that’s the only hurdle they’re trying to rectify atm.

Yeah. ID is required. Grand Bazaar - cell4less did it for me.
They did say only a few spots have it around the country so it’s best to call before going.
On another note, I still can’t activate iMessage. Even worse, I still can’t send SMS internationally on a postpaid plan which includes it. Everything at bmobile is so half baked it’s infuriating.

i guess having u come in is for ID verification purposes then- perhaps eventually physicals SIMs would be phased out so it would be hard for phone thieves as they would no longer be able to just switch SIM cards and cant activate a deactivated eSIM by going into bmobile.

In my experience, POS is the weakest area for bmo. Maybe because of the load during peak hours. Edward street around 9am on a working day I got about 50mbps to TSTT servers. Mucurapo Road 2pm on a working day is about 5mbps lol. Valsayn off peak at night is about 95+ mbps. It’s definitely not as bad as it once was. (All 3 samples at 3/4 bars while inside)

The main issue for me (as mentioned in the Apple thread) is iMessage activation issues and receiving international SMS reliability. Otherwise it’s been better (reception at my residence) and cheaper than Digicel.

The iMessage issue is only with the phone number? Does it activate with emails?

The whole of the price plaza area is bad for bmobile for years now

Re:iMessage, Email works fine. It’s just the phone number has issues - as Apple sends an intl SMS to their activation number and that’s what isn’t going through. I think it’ll sort it self out eventually tbh as I do remember this issue happening on my mom’s phone years ago and hers fixed itself… eventually.
