Neutral Light Flashing

A padna of mine has a Ck4 Lancer and recently while driving the Neutral Light (the lights that indicate the gear the car is in) would start flashing and there would be a instant power loss...

Has anyone ever had a similar problem or any suggestions as to what may be the cause?

This is a CVT lancer? Sounds like a sign of transmission failure or service indicator.

^^correct.....flashing neutral indicates tranmission fault. If it's like some of the euro transmissions.......the transmission goes into safe mode and changes into 3rd and only 3rd. Thats the reason for the apparent power loss.

What venom means is that the CK lancers did not have CTV transmitions, they had conventional 4 forward gears automatic trannys. CTVs do not have 'gears', but instead use a belt system to constantly varry the ratio between the engine and the wheels for optimum performace/fuel ecconomy etc. So it is not the CVT transmition that everyone says goes bad quickly.

However, it could be a transmition problem. Best thing is to carry it by the dealer and see what they say.

Ck lancers carried the INVECS 2 Electronic tranny


What they are getting is the "get home mode" of the tranny. Could be a simple as a sensor, or complicated as something internal.

Let the person check when last they changed tranny fluid...... too little or too much or too contaminated for the matter will cause the tranny to do this.

Check to see if there are any leaks of ATF fluid.

Check the sensors on the tranny, especially the inhibitor switch (round piece to front of tranny)

Did they wash the engine or anything like that? could be water related...

To the extreme it could be that the Tranny ECU needs replacing...

Have the dealer (expensive) or someone with diagnostics, check the tranny for error codes...

and do those general checks...

correct correct mishi....it could be as simple as a lose connector to the gear selector indicator.

Also check the reverse gear engagement.
MItsubishi transmissions have a fail safe mode so when a trans problem is detected only third gear is used.To verify this you will probably feel a thud when put in reverse.You need to have someone with a scan tool check your trans computer for fault codes.

this might be a late reply...but here goes...SAME THING happend to my ck4 took to chag auto supplies told me it was a code 22, which means the input speed sensor is faulty cost me 250dollars for thjem to just say that(but apparently thats the std price) and then they said i have to pay another 250 for them to manually search the wiring to see if it is good, then more to prob fix the speed sensor...
its an annoying problem and apparently an expensive one as well..it stoped happening and i have been meaning to take it to someelse to see if they can check out the wiring...btw...sometimes my ck4 felt like it was stuck in gear 1...and sometimes it felt as it was stuck in gear 4..maybe even 5...(accelerating was not easy...) please let me know how it turned out

check the ecu for any dampness in it
the ck lancers are common for water from the evaporator dripping and dampening the ecu. that line has to be re-routed or condemned..

trust me, when its got a little moisture, a whole heap of codes will be shown...some people have even changed their trannys due to this, when it was the ecu all along...

hmm and ah tranny NOT CHEAP>.so boss check everyting before u change ur tranny..if u wah spend the money 2 get it checked gud..carry it by chaguanas auto supply...also know as the tranny specialist..dey do real gud work dere..and dey cud diag.uh tranny and let u know de scene with it..if is that

Got a scan done at ACL and it turns out to be some pressure switch... now it's just to find out where it can be got for the best price...
