MovieTowne POS complex seized

The Port of Spain Infrastructure Company (POSINCO) has moved to retake possession of MovieTowne.

In a statement on Friday afternoon, POSINCO said, “This re-entry exercise was undertaken as a consequence of breaches of the terms and conditions of the existing Deed of Lease between POSINCO and TCDC.”

POSINCO said it has been in discussions with TCDC for several years regarding the breaches in an effort to avoid Friday’s outcome, while maintaining its rights under the Deed of Lease to re-enter. “Those discussions have not borne fruit,” the statement said.

The statement concluded, “POSINCO has endeavoured to conduct the re-entry exercise peaceably and in a manner that would be the least disruptive to the tenants and other stakeholders of TCDC, and it assures that it will continue to treat the matter with the sensitivity required and in accordance with the Laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.”

And they are owing BIR 93 million in taxes and penalties as of may 2024

Derek Chin not looking good, probably organizing an injunction against POSINCO all now

The move taken by the Port of Spain Infrastructure Company to take over the premises of Movietowne, Port-of-Spain through bailiffs, is in a bid to collect over $10 million in rental arrears, sources at the scene have told Guardian Media.

Guardian Media has been told that the amount accrued during the period 2021 to present.

Bailiffs arrived at the Invader’s Bay location at Mucurapo around 10 am and proceeded to lock down the administrative office and banquet hall.

Guardian Media understands that Movietowne’s executive has a grace period to make necessary payments and rectify the situation.
This is a developing story.

Except in the case of MT's tax debt it is 20 years old. For a business that is 21 years old.
Clearly they just don't like to pay what they owe

- you only get tax debt if you don't pay your taxes
- your taxes are only based on your profits

therefore, state of the economy now has nothing to do with their predicament. he actively avoided paying his dues for decades when he was making profits which those original taxes were based on.

these 1% conspiracy theories are so useless too, if anyone personally knows derek chin you know he himself is one of the 1%. this is just him thinking he could get away forever with dodging taxes and ducking rent, and that assumption now coming back to bite him

Talk is that the 1% in advanced talks to buy Trincity Mall.

Chin must pay his rent. I wonder what Tony Lee will have to say now. He was all up in his feelings when the "2 chinese" got called out before - Chow Lin On and ironically the same Chin.

Dummy

Boysie Singh was a know Indian Criminal in the 1930 to 1950s and controlled POS. A big money maker.

1% just arrived in Trinidad at that time they opened up gambling clubs. Boysie played cards with them and he won a lots of games at small stakes. They gave him lots of rope to draw him into gambling heavy.

When Boysie was comfortable at big stakes then the 1% opened up on him and took him in the pits and cleaned him out.

Its the same Strategy used on Chin with the help of PNM.

Many of u idiots on here would not know Ram Kirpalani. Ram Kirpalani had a similar fate with the French Creoles in the early 1980s. He lost his mall cause the French Creole gave him rope to hang himself.

Yeah... figured there would be an injunction and then a decision on the substantial case later on.

I believe PATT, POSINCO and the bailiffs can only act if they had a court order. It sounds like there wasn't one which means Chin about to make some money.
