A curfew is highly recommended, it’s makes detection easier.

The TTPS basically relaxing in roadblocks, picking and choosing who to stop, who to harass, just buying time to APPEAR as if they are doing effective policing.

Gangs are so connected with the police service, only small fries will be shaken down.

Ian on TV now explaining about the Administration of Justice act (AJIPA) passed last year.

He is saying the legislation passed by the PNM in December 2023 (last year) changed the procedure for getting warrants. It moved the warrant from being signed by a JP to only being signed by a Master (a judge above a magistrate). A physical copy of the warrant also has to be given to the suspect.

Ian explaining many times this year the police were ready to pounce on a suspect, but the additional procedures delayed the warrant until after everything was done and gone.

The SoE sidesteps around that, but the bad AJIPA law passed by the PNM last year still on the books and not being corrected. He saying is that AJIPA law specifically that make we reach this stage with crime so bad this year.

NATIONAL Transformation Alliance (NTA) political leader Gary Griffith and Patriotic Front political leader Mickela Panday have said the declaration of a state of emergency (SoE) will not solve crime.

Been saying this since the COVID days. Personally I don't think an SOE or curfew is needed to solve crime. It will keep criminals at bay until it blows over but that's all.
Only way I could see this making sense is if they go door to door in hotspots searching every house. Police identified the number of gangs in Trinidad some years ago, this is their time to crack down on them.
But I honestly feel this is just too calm down the killings till election

With respect to AJIPA and warrants, I believe it was to hold TTPS more accountable when applying for one as a Master of the Court will be more meticulous than a Justice of the Peace (JP). Many times, the courts have reprimanded both the TTPS and JPs for flawed and abusive warrants which taxpayers paid out to the affected parties in damages.

From Ian's explanation it's harder for the TTPS to access a Master to get a warrant. By the time you get one, the opportunity to arrest and seize evidence is lost. What that tells me is that the AG and the PNM did not prepare other bodies, in this case the judiciary, by hiring more Masters and cater for the fast processing of warrants. The SOE temporarily bypasses this problem.

The judiciary itself is in a mess and CJ Archie fedup talk year after year so i'm not surprised.
