A new political coalition has emerged to contest this year's general election.

A statement issued on social media on February 24 identified this coalition as the People's Alliance.

The members are the National Transformation Alliance (NTA), Honesty, Opportunity, Performance and Empowerment (HOPE) and the Community Reformation Network (CRN), a non-governmental organisation which works in Chaguanas, Cunupia and parts of East Trinidad.

The alliance will be launched at Mt Lambert, Eastern Main Road, on March 12 at 6.30 pm.

I really want to know why they ent talk to Mikela. For real.

Why was she not invited to the coalition? Is Gary scared he would lose leadership to her in an internal?

NO HOPE need to be careful with them 'disgruntled' former UNC. Them fellas went up for an internal election and instead of accepting the result, they cuss up everybody and leave the party. With members like that, any coalition that takes them should be aware of what exactly they getting.

Mikela tho, why she not in NO HOPE? She doesn't want to join with them?

Gary and Mickela (allegedly) had history going all the way back when Bas was prime minister. It seems that both of them are intentionally keeping away from and not talking about each other. Gary's temperament rubbed many the wrong way and there is a high chance he would clash with Mickela at some point if she decides to join.

NTA, HOPE and CRN as a coalition not winning anything. Gary will remain relevant if crime escalates after the expiration of the state of emergency in April. Many still see him as the best CoP in recent memory.

If the UNC dissidents such as Rushton Paray and Anita Haynes gets the boot, and the setup is there for that to happen, they might quicker go to Mickela than any other party.

CroCro did sing a song about them some decades ago called Dougla Wedding, that alone tells a tale for who could remember when he was the personal security detail for the Panday's.

I feel all that 'new parties' bacchanal is a phenomenon that exists only in the media and does not interest 99.9% of voters on the ground. Nobody is voting based on anything said or done by any force other than UNC and PNM.

Just now I try to take in a Gary Griffith video. He couldn't even do a 6 minute (!) monologue in one sitting. He had to stitch together multiple takes and it still came out really dull sounding. I don't know how Gary is relevant at all politically outside of the media-created bacchanal. The guy has a 0 score in charisma.

I keep going back to this, but people vote based on their material conditions. They vote based on that is around them, what they can touch, and what they feel affects them personally. The only hope Rowley (or Rajesh, anybody see Rajesh lately?) can have is to convince the population the last 10 years didn't happen and maybe it was all a dream. Very few people look favourably on his last 10 years in office.

I not seeing a single thing that would make PNM victory likely. There's the question of an unproven leader (if Rajesh really becomes leader), a hugely unpopular incumbent, things literally falling apart, services being cut ( and growling about CDAP being too expensive), bringing legislation to parliament to cut pensions (!), layoffs, economic disruption, etc.

I would even go further to say the longer this administration carries on, the worse it going to get. They trying to stretch it out the last few months but there is evidence the money has already run out -- mere months before election. From cuts to dialysis treatment to sando immigration office being shuttered-- this chit not normal and no amount of ribbon cutting for bus stops going to distract from that.

Kamla rejects ‘One Love’ coalition with Gary

UNC Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has rejected a “One Love” outreach by the Progressive Alliance (PATT) coalition—comprising HOPE, Gary Griffith’s National Transformation Alliance (NTA), and the Community Reformation Network. She also said the UNC was not interested in attending the coalition’s March 12 public meeting.

Saying that these parties were all asked a number of questions, which she listed, Persad-Bissessar added, “Yet no answer has been forthcoming. They are wasting sensible people’s time. However, it is a democracy, and they are entitled to do what they want, but the UNC has already made it crystal clear that we will not be associated with the NTA.”

This comes after HOPE chairman Steve Alvarez stated that the Progressive Alliance coalition wrote to Persad-Bissessar yesterday, inviting her and UNC members to PATT’s public meeting at Eastern Main Road, Mt Lambert.

He said the ultimate goal was for all parties to unite to end the “ten years of mismanagement” that T&T has suffered, and they want the UNC to be part of their coalition.

Alvarez added, “Ultimately, our goal is for one big coalition, so Trinidad and Tobago has the best representatives. Rebuilding Trinidad and Tobago requires all hands on deck. The intention is not to ‘fight down’ anyone. The common enemy is the mismanagement of the country.”

PATT anticipates filling the location’s carpark, which has space for over 1,000 people. HOPE is also in discussions with Mickela Panday’s Patriotic Front regarding coalition links and has spoken to so-called UNC “dissident” MP Rushton Paray.

HOPE and the National Transformation Alliance were in talks last year towards an alliance with the Congress of the People under then-COP leader Kirt Sinnette. However, new COP leader Prakash Ramadhar, who is focusing on an alliance with the UNC, has rejected the HOPE/NTA/COP partnership.

Alvarez stated that the latest addition to PATT is the CRN, headed by Roshan Ali. They are a non-profit social work group active in Chaguanas, Cunupia, and north Trinidad. He said CRN’s membership, comprising former UNC members, is over 100.

‘One Love’—HOPE urges Kamla

Alvarez said the invitation to PATT’s March meeting was sent yesterday to Persad-Bissessar from HOPE leader Hamel-Smith.

It referenced the UNC’s December invitation to meet, the miscommunication that occurred, and Hamel-Smith’s indication that he would have been happy to meet her in early 2025. It invited Persad-Bissessar, the UNC’s executive, and its membership to attend PATT’s March meeting, which focuses on transformative measures to rebuild T&T.

Hamel-Smith’s letter stated, “We look forward to meeting you on 12th March 2025. At this juncture, it would be appropriate to remind ourselves of Bob Marley’s refrain, ‘One Love! One Heart!’ The lyrics of which are attached …”

Persad-Bissessar, in response to Guardian Media’s queries, said, “These parties were all asked the following: When did they have internal elections? Are their executives elected by their membership? What are their registered memberships? What is the geographical spread of their memberships? What human, financial, and technical resources do they possess? Who are the members of their screening committees? How many people applied for seats? Was any media in attendance to witness their candidate screening events, as seen with the UNC and PNM?”

“All of these questions have been asked of these parties by citizens. Yet no answer has been forthcoming. They are wasting sensible people’s time. The entire country sees the ridiculousness of what they are doing. Quite frankly, it is beyond embarrassing at this point,” Persad-Bissessar added.

“However, it is a democracy, and they are entitled to do what they want, but the UNC has already made it crystal clear that we will not be associated with the NTA.”

Panday party talks, outreach to Paray, open to PNMites

Alvarez said there are “ongoing discussions” with Mickela Panday’s Patriotic Front. Panday did not respond to Guardian Media’s query on this.

Alvarez stated that their coalition began speaking officially with UNC’s Paray a month ago. “He is still with UNC, hoping to be chosen to contest Mayaro and bring the change UNC needs.” Paray did not respond yesterday.

Alvarez said some COP members still feel COP should be part of PATT. “Whether or not you call them ‘COP dissidents’, they are invited to our March meeting—persons like COP’s chairman Lonsdale Williams and Wendell Eversley.”

He added that the March meeting is open to all, including dissatisfied PNMites. Alvarez said HOPE and NTA plan to contest the election under their respective banners, and CRN under HOPE’s. He stated that PATT is open to arrangements with the UNC on seats—but only if the UNC is part of PATT’s alliance.

Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley has announced that he will demit office on March 16.

Addressing the ceremony to officially commission the Lisa Morris-Julian Boulevard in Arima this morning, (Wednesday, 26th February, 2025) PM Rowley noted this would take place the day after he commissions the Port of Spain General Hospital main block.

Say what you will about Rowley, he did the best with what little we had. I'm 100% certain that if the demented senile drunk had been in his place, the country would be in an even worse state.

Take off the yellow blinders to see things clearly. We all know that Kamla and her pick-me-up band of misfits aren't a viable alternative, especially considering the mismanagement, corruption, waste, and bacchanal she oversaw when she was in power. Maybe once she's finally forced out, her party might be able to reinvigorate itself.

Personally, I hoped Rowley would have stayed on for another term to navigate the country through the tough times ahead, but he's made his decision. I wish Young all the best in the PNM's third consecutive term.

I also wish for the country to finally be rid of Kamla so that a viable alternative can be forged.

It is interesting they are going to have a physical, in-person rally. Would be interesting to compare to the sizes of crowds at NO HOPE and PF rallys.

That highway makes absolutely NO Sense whatsoever. To access it from the CRH, you have to drive for about 5-7 mins(at that same time, you already on the Valencia stretch and on your way to Grande)

Well it made sense to the people who get the job though

Rambally withdraws candidacy, Kamla says he’s embarrassing himself

Chaguanas West MP Dinesh Rambally has withdrawn his candidacy for Chaguanas West in the upcoming general election, citing concerns over what he called the UNC’s increasingly “divisive racial rhetoric as its central message.” He remains a member of the party though.

He said the party’s rhetoric would harm both itself and society at large. For years, he said he tolerated “unprofessionalism, poor judgment, and internal dysfunction” in the leadership, hoping these issues could be resolved through open dialogue. When he submitted himself for screening, he did so in good faith, he said.

However, he believed these problems would remain unaddressed and that the party was “traversing a path that can lead it, and our society, to severe harm.” He denounced racism, bigotry, and intolerance as a campaign strategy, saying he refused to participate in any effort that “exploits the fears and prejudices of our people for political gain.”

Rambally criticised what he called the “increasingly irresponsible rhetoric” from the UNC’s leader, warning that it should concern all members of the party’s National Executive, MPs, and Senators. While he saw many in the party as willing to “sacrifice their dignity and principles in the pursuit of political office,” he refused to do so and urged the UNC to “abandon this reckless and dangerous approach before irreparable damage is done.”

He described the nation as “at a crossroads” and called for leadership that promoted “unity, responsibility, and vision—not inflammatory rhetoric and racial animosity.” Despite his withdrawal, he expressed gratitude for having had the opportunity to serve and hoped the UNC could recover from “these self-inflicted wounds.” He thanked the constituents of Chaguanas West, saying he would “always carry them in his heart.”

In an immediate response UNC Political Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar brushed the withdrawal off as sour grapes over losing the internal election.

Rambally’s comes days after activist Victor Roberts resigned from the UNC’s La Brea constituency office.

“No one is surprised by this childish orchestrated plans to publicise these resignations every couple days in an attempt to damage the party ahead of the GE to assist the PNM,” Persad-Bissessar said. “We were well aware of this plan and expect them to continue this ridiculousness. People are too smart to fall that simple minded trickery.

Persad-Bissessar accused him and the others who went against her slate in the internal election has having no selfless motive but purely personal ambition.

“Instead of displaying public immaturity I advise them to sit and consider why the membership of their own party rejected them so overwhelmingly and if they couldn’t get the UNC membership to support them, why would they think national community support them,” she said.
