Guyana Chronicle: Missing 11-year-old girl found dead in hotel pool

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1AHXzaMbMm/

The body of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge, who was reported missing on Wednesday, was found on Thursday morning in the pool of the Double Day Hotel at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

Adrianna, who recently sat the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), had visited the hotel with her grandmother, Carol Xavier, and other relatives around 1:02 PM on Wednesday.

Her body was discovered shortly after 10:30 AM on Thursday, contradicting an earlier police report which claimed she was last seen leaving the hotel and entering a motor car.

Relatives had contacted the police and conducted checks on Wednesday, but the child was not found until the following day after police finally searched the hotel.

Investigations are ongoing.

INITIAL STORY

Guyanese Critic: Alleged Abduction

…….Regional Division #3

Police in Regional Division #3 are investigating a report of an alleged Abduction committed on Female Guyanese of Mixed Ancestry under the age of 16, (Adrianna Younge) which occurred on Wednesday April 23, 2025 between 13:02hrs and 14:00 hours at the Double Day Hotel which is located at Tuschen Public Road EBE.

Investigators visited at about 15:30 hours.

Inquiries disclosed that on the aforementioned date at about 13:02 hrs. Adrianna went to Double Day Hotel pool to swim with her grandmother, Carol Xavier, who stated that at about 13:10hrs, she gave Adrianna money to buy band to swim in the pool. Shortly thereafter, Adrianna entered the pool with her siblings. Sometime after, the grandmother called to get her family out of the pool when it was discovered Adrianna was missing.

A search was launched by the family in the pool and hotel but without success. The matter was then reported at Tuschen Police Station. Upon arrival at the scene, the police made further search in and around the hotel, including rooms, store room, yard, and roof, but they came up empty-handed. Several cameras were seen attached to the building. However, when asked to view same, the manager indicated that they are not in working order.

The Command Centre in Regional Division #3 was contacted and viewed footage showed that Adrianna entered a Red and Black Raum motor car bearing registration number PSS 4684 which drove off in an eastern direction heading towards Vreed-en-hoop.
Information was received about the registered owner, who, when contacted, claimed he rented the car to one Orlando (no last name provided) since last week. Checks were made for the said Orlando at an address provided by the car owner, but Orlando was not contacted.

Trace of the vehicle from Georgetown Command Centre at about 20:58 hrs. showed the vehicle in Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara at ‘White Shop short cut’.

Police are in pursuit as investigation continues.

WARNING: GRAPHIC VIDEO

With news of 11-year-old Adrianna Young missing, many began gathering at the Double D Hotel located in the West Coast of Demerara. Many didn't believe the police that the girl left the hotel where the family was convinced the girl was somewhere on the premises. Initial searches of the hotel for Adrianna yielded no results.

The next day, a crowd broke into the hotel where the body of the missing teen was miraculously found in the swimming pool. Her father dived in and retrieved her body which had suspected marks of violence.

Setting fire to the hotel would destroy all the evidence and nobody will have to pay for the crime.

I read something this morning that it was a ritual killing based on the wounds to her body and how she was found upright in the pool.

Third ritual killing at that hotel!

Left to the legal system, this will be swept under the rug
Imagine this was your child for a second.
People are outraged.
Trinis take everything and forget about it when the next scandal comes along. This is why our politicians, and even the police do not take us seriously. Kudos to the Guyanese people. Atrocities like this need to be met with outrage .Let it be a warning for anybody who even thinks about doing this in the future.

Akeil Chamber's killers are still out there.Multiple persons allegedly buggered the poor child, murdered him and distorted the evidence without a slap on the wrist. So much for being protected by the law.

The relatives of an 11year-old girl, whose body was found in a swimming pool at a Hotel in Guyana, have announced the postponement of her funeral.

Adrianna Younge’s death late last month, caused the government to institute a four-and-a-half-hour curfew following violent protests. In a message posted on her Facebook page, Adrianna’s mother Amecia Simon, gave no date as to when the funeral will take place.

The funeral was carded for yesterday.

Mrs. Simon said, due to ongoing matters and the family’s need for space and clarity as the grief continues. The mother said, the decision to postpone the funeral was difficult but the need for “peace” was among the key reasons.

An autopsy has said the girl drowned and there was no sign of foul play. However, the relatives are demanding an international probe into the girl’s death. Last Sunday the United States ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot, appealed for peace and the rule of law.

Meanwhile a top lawyer and forensic expert in Guyana several basics were not taken care of. Making the probe of incident, flawed.

Dexter Todd yesterday said, even the area where the girl’s body was found was not properly secured. He said a crime scene must always be preserved.

Mr. Todd said the police mucked up. Following the discovery of the girl’s body, angry protesters set fire to the Double D. Hotel and the home of its owner.

Second autopsy for Adriana Younge set for Today in the U.S.

The body of 11-year-old Adriana Younge, which was flown to the United States on Monday for a second autopsy and further forensic examination, will undergo the procedure today at a laboratory in Atlanta.

This was confirmed by the family’s lead attorney, Dexter Todd, who provided a brief update on the post mortem examination. No additional details were provided.

Adriana’s remains were flown out of Georgetown early Monday morning via the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and arrived in Atlanta, where two U.S.-based pathologists are expected to conduct an independent forensic review of her death.

Shortly after her body arrived in the U.S., the Guyana Police Force released the final report from the initial autopsy, which was conducted by a team of three international pathologists: Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul of Barbados, Dr. Gary Collins, Chief Medical Examiner of Delaware (U.S.), and Dr. Glenn Rudner of Mount Sinai Hospital (U.S.). Police stated that the pathologists submitted their final report on Tuesday, officially ruling Adriana Younge’s death as a drowning, with no signs of foul play. According to the police press release, the certified autopsy findings confirmed that her death was consistent with drowning and revealed no evidence of trauma, assault, or any other criminal activity.

Despite this conclusion, the family has publicly expressed doubts about the preliminary results, first communicated to them on April 28 when the initial autopsy was done at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. They insist that several aspects of her death remain suspicious and unexplained. “This is no result to me,” Adriana’s father, Subryan Younge, had told reporters outside the GPHC.

The police also cited findings from retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigator Leonard McCoshan, who submitted an independent report concluding, “There is no evidence of foul play by persons named or unnamed during the investigation.”

However, citing a lack of trust in local authorities and unresolved questions surrounding the case, the family opted to send Adriana’s body to the U.S. for further examination.

Adriana’s death has drawn widespread public attention. Her body was discovered on April 24 in the swimming pool of the Double Day International Hotel and Bar in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo—approximately 20 hours after she was reported missing during a family outing.

According to her relatives, multiple searches were conducted around the hotel premises, including the pool area, during the time she was missing, but nothing was initially found. Her father later discovered her body in the pool and retrieved her.

Family members observed visible bruises and scratches on her knees, elbows, face, hands, and toes. Strikingly, she was found in an upright, standing position in the pool and reportedly showed no signs of bloating, an indication typically associated with drowning.

With her body now in the U.S., Adriana’s family and supporters are hoping the second autopsy will shed new light on what they believe are unanswered questions surrounding her death.

First autopsy was ‘thorough & competent’; Second examination confirms no trauma in Adriana Younge’s death

A second autopsy conducted on the body of 11-year-old Adriana Younge has reaffirmed the initial postmortem findings that there was no evidence of trauma, with Dr. Carol Terry, Chief Medical Examiner of Gwinnett County, Georgia, describing the original autopsy as “competently and thoroughly” conducted.

The body was embalmed and flown to Georgia, USA, by Younge’s relatives in a bid to obtain a fourth opinion and an additional autopsy following the child’s tragic death last month.

In an interview with journalist Travis Chase shortly after the examination on Thursday, Dr. Terry explained that her examination served largely as a “quality control” measure, acknowledging that the best opportunity to determine the cause of death was during the first autopsy — when decomposition was minimal and before embalming had occurred.

While she acknowledged that certain artefacts introduced during the initial postmortem limited the forensic value of her own assessment, Dr. Terry emphasised that the first autopsy was done “correctly, competently, and thoroughly,” and explicitly stated that “no trauma was overlooked” in that examination.

Dr. Terry also agreed with the initial findings: there was no evidence of trauma and did not find no signs of struggle. However, she stopped short of confirming drowning as the definitive cause of death, noting instead that she would be “reluctant to rule drowning” due to the limitations of a second autopsy and the absence of supporting toxicology results provided to her directly.

“Drowning is a diagnosis of exclusion,” she explained, stressing that such a conclusion requires the elimination of all other possible causes of death. Nonetheless, she did call for a thorough investigation, remarking that the surrounding circumstances of Adriana’s disappearance and death were “suspicious,” based on what was told to her by the family. That investigation, however, is already underway and has so far found no evidence of criminal involvement.

Retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigator, Mr. Leonard McCoshan, who was earlier engaged in the inquiry, also reported that there is “no evidence of foul play by persons named or unnamed during the investigation.”

What the First Autopsy Found

The initial autopsy was conducted at the Georgetown Public Hospital on April 28 by three experienced forensic pathologists — Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul, Dr. Glenn Rudner, and Dr. Gary L. Collins — and concluded that Adriana died by accidental drowning. That finding was based on a comprehensive analysis, including internal and external examinations, toxicology, DNA swabs, and postmortem imaging.

The autopsy found her lungs swollen and filled with fluid, a classic sign of drowning, and foam in her airways suggested she was alive when submerged. Notably, toxicology results showed no drugs and only trace ethanol levels — a byproduct of natural decomposition. DNA analysis detected no foreign genetic material, ruling out sexual assault or struggle, and her body showed no bruises, lacerations, or other injuries.

A patterned imprint on her forearm matched the “VIP” wristband she had been wearing, believed to have formed during prolonged submersion — a key detail affirming she had not been removed from and returned to the water posthumously.

Adriana was last seen near the pool of a hotel on the East Bank of Essequibo on April 23. Her body was discovered floating in the pool the following morning. Her death, under unclear circumstances, prompted intense public scrutiny and speculation, leading the family to seek further examination.

The findings of both autopsies, however, converge on a central point: there is no evidence of trauma, sexual assault, or foul play.

While Dr. Terry urged caution around ruling drowning in the absence of complete data available to her, her conclusion ultimately reaffirmed the professional integrity and accuracy of the first autopsy.
