In a brutal Islamophobic attack, a young man, 22-year-old Aboubakar Cissé, was stabbed over 40 times inside La Grand-Combe Mosque in southern France.
The attacker, identified as Olivier H., a 21-year-old Frenchman, deceptively approached the victim under the pretext of wanting to convert to Islam. As Cissé began teaching him how to pray, Olivier launched a frenzied and merciless knife attack — stabbing him repeatedly and filming the murder while hurling insults against Islam. He later posted footage of the attack on social media before fleeing the scene.
The victim’s body was discovered the following morning by members of the mosque.
French authorities have since launched a nationwide manhunt for Olivier H., who is considered extremely dangerous. Over 70 investigators have been deployed to track him down.
The attack has been widely condemned as a clear act of Islamophobic hatred, with President Macron vowing that "racism and hatred based on religion will never have a place in France."
Muslim leaders have called for greater protection of mosques and renewed vigilance across the country.

The tomb of former Syrian president and longtime dictator Hafez al-Assad in the city of Qardaha, western Syria, has reportedly been exhumed, with his remains moved to an undisclosed location, according to activists and local media.
Images and videos circulated on social media on Monday showing the grave emptied and heavily damaged, appearing as a charred pit. Individuals dressed in military uniforms can be seen at the site, though their identity and affiliation remain unclear.
The footage, some of which was shared by Syrian outlet Zaman al-Wasl, is said to date back to 17 April. Activists claim that unknown individuals dug up the grave and transferred the remains elsewhere. Some blamed armed factions active in the area for the operation.
