Is SQ dead???

Postby Gladiator » May 28th, 2025, 7:53 pm

So I haven't been around the car show and sound off scene lately but I don't see any posting about SQ competitions or meets anymore.

Is SQ alive anywhere locally?

Well just this weekend I wondering what's going on and what new equipment is there. As of late one channel is giving trouble on my 80 prs and it's an aged model. Most new units ugly as hell.
Dsp units seems to have gained popularity as most new vehicles can't incorporate an aftermarket unit.
But again, phone AI heard my plight and bought up the blaupunkt London 500. Sadly it's not available yet.

There was an Iasca SQC event last two weekends. Competitor count was about 10. IQC competition was restarted as well

I think if it is marketed properly on tiktok or insta it will gain a decent following since many people are quite fed up with the million box systems.

Entry level audio equipment is fairly cheap for a beginner compared to back then.
For about 10k or even less you can have a competitive vehicle in amateur

Acoustic design of a modern vehicle is way better than the b14,15, lancer etc

A competitor used some 8s for midbass in the past. Have since upgraded however.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think I will be purchasing a whole 3 way component set online. Not finding anything locally.
I was thinking about something to compliment my JL audio C2s to sit in between the tweeters and the mids. I might rethink the whole thing.
Full IB the midbass in my kick panel.
2 sets of tweeters and mid on the a pillar.
See example

The wideband midrange response is unreal and it wont break the bank. The construction is also extremely overbuilt... cast metal basket, aluminum phase plug and rubber surround.

I know each car is different, but how do they sit in your mix? Eq, crossover point, time alignment, etc?

Up on the dash, almost on axis.
Wideband midrange duty
250Hz to 3000Hz
6dB slopes
Very little EQ... just some taper in the 1kz region
Time alignment using the DSP... images nicely

If you delay it more, would your soundstage widen?
