i34a requires a diferent setup and its a little more expensive compresor ,oil condenser, drier evaporator and expansion valve must be gas specific

I THINK YOU JUST CHANGE THE FITTINGS AND PUT LESS GAS SOMETHING LIKE 10 PERCENT LESS NOT SURE BUT WILL LET YOU KNOW.

just found out for sure all you need is the high and low side fittings for 134 as the r12 fittings are different and you put 90 percent of the required volume of the r12 so you basically will be adding 10 percent less 134 than the amount of r12 that the system takes.as for cooling effect every tech i know think r12 is colder, the thing is it is hard to get in the states.

first if you want to use r134,you have to change the oil in the comp.you have to use r134 compatible oil, which is a synthetic polylol ester oil, then get a drier for r134,and the fittings for the comp, but you can keep your r12 fittings because you can use normal hoses to charge the r134 into your comp, but you must label accordingly, vacuum the system and charge the system.or you can go the cheaper and just as effective route and leave the r12 mineral oil in the system and vacuum and charge with r 415b refrigerant, use a new drier also.

Why do you want to change the refrigerant? it wouldnt work any better with 134a as opposed to r12.
if you can get 12, repair whatever problems you r having with your system, evacuate and regas. if you cant get 12 use 415b as cool suggested.

The reason they are phasing R 12 is because it depletes the ozone layer so they have replaced with an ozone friendly alternative which is r134a(or so they say).
when you change over to 134a you are supposed to replace the oil(like cool said) and the metering device, but changing the metering device or the evaporator is not necessary.
the pressures will be slightly diffrent. In my opnion the Ri2 colds better

if the pressure is slightly higher them pressure switch will shut down the compressor before it should thus adding 10 percent less than the required volume will solve this.

my suggestion is to use the 415b refrigerant,if you have no leaks or other problems ,all you have to do is change the drier ,vacuum and gas,r12 is going to get more expensive until it is phased out,i really fix other kinds of refrigeration equipment but i can also do auto(i did mine).if you want you can give me a call and i can either advise you or do it for you.and it would be less than the commercial places, call 353 4264 or leave a message if interested.
