Did you recently do any engine wash or anything else to the car?

This is why I asked about the filter even if you cover your distributor some water can get in through the cone type intakes
It will burn out eventually

It may not pick up the faulty air flow sensor, which i'm 99% sure the problem is.
If the check light was not on, I would guess that it's moisture in the plug wires.

ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE ENGINE BAY THERE IS A HARNESS WITH TWO CONNECTORS . THESE CONTROL THE SPARK AND IT MAY CAUSE THIS PROBLEM IF THE WIRES ARE LOOSE. I HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH MY STI,IT WAS A MISFIRE ON CYLINDER THREE.

How about the plugwires themselves? Are they good? Did U check for spark leakages?

Was this resolved? And if so....can you share what the solution was? A lot of ppl have responded and it would be good to know which suggestion was correct in this case...

Ok for the CEL to be on then you have thrown a historic engine code. The common thing I see on these cars are the decatted exhaust moving the efficiency out of spec. If you get that code then you have options. Check TSOC website and look at the writeups for solutions.
