1) The STI carries a different block/head design. The WRX has an "open deck design", the STi has a "semi-closed deck" design.
2) The STi runs 18+ psi boost....stock. The WRX runs about 13.5 lbs boost, stock.
SDM WRX = 227 bhp
JDM WRX = 250 bhp
SDM STi = 260 bhp
JDM STi = 280 bhp
3) The STi requires 98 RON octane (untuned), the WRX requires 95 RON.
4) The STi carries a larger turbo, slightly higher compression ratio, for more power.
5) The STi has sodium filled exhaust valves, and valve shims, for faster rev up/down. TYhe STi also has a higher rpm redline.
6) The STi is a 6 speed manual, the WRX is a 5 speed
7) The STi has brembo disk brakes, larger rotors, and thicker axles than the WRX. Also carries a rear LSD (unlike the WRX which has a open rear diff).
8 ) The WRX has a steering ratio of 16.5:1, the STi has a steering ratio of 15:1 (meaning the STi has qucier steering)
9) There are also interior/cosmetic differences as well....
10) STi has a water spray, WRX doesn't.
Suspension:
The STi carries Slightly bigger pink struts and springs. Lowered ride height. Also carries thicker sway bars, and trailing arms. Of course, these suspension options are all direct bolt ons to a WRX.
duhhh the bell housing clamps on bolt for bolt to the engine.
it's a subaru thing. all the gearboxes and engines whether sti ,non sti, SRX, TS are interchangeable and bolt for bolt!!!!
Go Fast wrote:it seems like you wnt this fella to buy a new gearbox!!!!!
the ts transmission as well as the manual gearbox will be shortly destroyed with that amount of power going through it. if you don't rough it up.... it'll last but who want to have a turbo chaarged scooby and not press?
This high performance version of the already shatteringly fast standard Impreza WRX STI has an extra 39 bhp to take its peak power to 320 bhp at 6400 rpm, a 14 percent increase. Torque has risen to 319 lb-ft at 4,400 rpm, a 10.5 percent increase over the 289 lb-ft of the standard Japanese 2.0-liter Impreza WRX STI
There are numerous specification differences between the S204 and the standard Impreza WRX STI.
Externally there is a unique carbon-fibre front splitter and boot mounted rear wing to complement the side sills. There is also a rear screen wiper on this four door sedan.
The S204 sits on 18 inch BBS alloy wheels shod with 235/40 ZR18 Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.
The wheels are filled with four piston Brembo ventilated disc brakes. S204 badging on the front and rear immediately identifies these limited edition cars from the standard WRX STI.
The suspension has been lowered by slightly less than 1 inch and has stiffer springs than the normal Impreza WRX STI. It includes an engine bay mounted front turret strut brace. Inside the boot is an STI rear performance damper between the rear suspension strut towers. Alloy componentry is used extensively in the suspension to reduce the car's unsprung weight.
Many of the parts are coloured in STI's distinctive pink to highlight the car's unique character.
Under the bonnet, there is an intercooler water spray system which can be manually operated from within the cabin. The extra performance is liberated from the quad cam, turbocharged motor by changes to the engine management system and the inlet and exhaust manifolds.
Inside the cabin carbon-fiber high backed Recaro sport's seats are upholstered with a combination of suede and leather. The footrest and pedals are alloy, while the steering wheel, gear lever and hand brake are leather covered.
The background of the 280 limit
The 280 limit came in effect in 1990 responding to increasing number of traffic accidents associated with high output cars. Also, the gentleman's agreement was there to avoid unneccesary unlimited power race between Japanese manufactures. 1990 was around the year when R32 GTR, 80 Supra, FD3S, NSX came out.
The reason of the termination
Being that the imported cars are not restricted, there were vehicles on road that were sold with more horsepower, recently 400 horsepower is not a surprise anymore looking at Porsches and AMGs. Also Japanese cars are sold more than 280hp elsewhere on the world. For instance, Lexus LS, Infinity Q45.
Considering the inefficiency of manufacturing vehicles in double standards, JAIA concluded that the gentleman's agreement is nonsense.
Another story is that there was opinion that the 280 limit is actually restricting the manufactures development. While foreign manufactures builds vehicles around their high performance output, Japanese cars were designed around the 280 package. The opinion was that development of chassis, brakes, suspensions, and all the other components were suffered from 280 limit.
Now, manufactures are freed to develop vehicles competing with rivalries overseas.
and the lateral links look diferrent.... normally i see a forged link, not rounded like this one tho, but more square...on our sti's down here.
