Ac problems

Postby Duplicolor » October 12th, 2007, 9:08 am

hey tuners, a friend of mine ac giving real problems, the car only cools when you are driving , if u only stop by a traffic light it gets hot. the compressor was changed 3 times, all seals where replaced and it was gassed, they tried and original b13 compressor and even a b14, and the same thing is happening and the guy wants to change another compressor, so im beginning to think..... from after the 1st 2 that the compressor, isnt the problem..

can one can give me some info on what to do ? almost 3000 was spent to fix the ac so far and everytime it comes back.. same thing..

did you try cleaning the condensor. road muck tends to fill the spaces between the fins and you loose the cooling ability. soak it with some soap water and then power wash it.

dont hold the pressure washer to close as that will bend the fins on the condensor

^^ sounds like your referring to the compressor. the condensor is located in front of the radiator. it removes the heat from the gas. the radiator will have to be removed to change this.

try putting a piece of paper in front of the condensor with the fans running. it'll give you an idea of how powerfull the airflow through the condensor/rad is and try comparing this to a similar car. if the fins are plugged then you won't get good flow.

there is a pressure valve that acts as a fail safe when the air does not cool the condenser and thus shuts the compressor down
when this happened to me, my a/c wasn't triggering my fans but this is just a thought of the system to explore

Idle up unit how low does the idle drop wen he comes to a stop, and if it is a carburator engine from the b13 u need to check the hoses as well, also sounds like he needs a NEW A/C TECHNICIAN that a/c man must have your padner like he monthly salary at a fixed rate. Condenser well say that is changed so i assume he has a good one, but more soundin like an idle problem check valves as well....

Hope this helps

i believe if the old system was using the R12 gas and a compressor that uses the R134 gas the old drier has to be replaced to work properly with the new gas

u should always change the drier whenever doing ac work, remember it acts as a filter and use a new one please

the pressure valve is on the compressor

i was talking to an ac man the other day, he said when the coil in the compressor is breaking down, it would cool initially and then not work at all
they do rewind them but weight that cost against a used one
