8" Subwoofer suggestionz

Postby roger » November 22nd, 2007, 7:27 am

tuners...

i about to complete fabbing a f.glass/mdf custom subwoofer box that is about 1.2cu/ft of space.

it was originally designed to run a 10" woofer but in the back of my head i am seeing looking at the possibility of running 2 x 8" subwoofers.

i have very little experience with 8" subs, so i was wondering what 8" do you guys use.

i have 280w at 2ohms on tap so ideally i am looking for single 4 ohm units. it will be in a basic sq install. the eclosure will not be divided in two (which is the ideal), so the subs will be in a common chamber arrangement. chamber most likely will remain sealed in this application.

any suggestions.......????

I think a single ported 8 would be better than 2 sealed 8s, esp with that power and space. Thas just my opinion tho.

Yeah, I heard a ported crystal comp 8 in 1 cu ft net @ 32Hz. If I were to buy an 8, that would be the sub and enlcosure i would put it in. Rivalled a 12.

Boy rog, I dunno, scrap out the back doors, use 3/4" mdf and make new door upholstery covers for some 8" free air subs...

I am currently using a CRYSTAL COMP 8 AND IT SOUND JUST AS GOOD AS MY JL W6'S.

Handling its power and even more, sounds very smooth an playing my favourite low notes well.

have another 1 on the way.

^^^I think it was your comp 8 I heard. Damn good sub.
And also, there's a great 8 challenge online somewhere, and the comp 8 was the 1st choice for sound, beating out w7s, w3's etc.
