At the very least you should have your car up to spec with maintenance. Ensure all fluids are fresh, check all major components, perform a full tune up, alignment, balance wheels, make sure tires good, clean out fuel system and so on. Make sure you're car can pass tech, battery tie downs, no loose parts, clean wiring, no electrical shorts, a extinguisher that is properly secured for drags and so on... That's as far as basics.
If you have planned mods, do not put them in a rush expecting they will give you the extra edge, make sure you have enough time with any changes you do so that nothing will go wrong on the days of events. As far as competing as a 'normal' bloke... with reference to a solodex type event... ANYONE with some skill can win. But I am also thinking about the pluses of adding a dyno event to the mix... but price to enter the face off will keep getting higher. We will see how it goes, maybe point classes similar to a car show to level the playing field ?
Wild (Unlimited modifications of suspension, body, engine)
Mild (Limited modifications to suspension... no cages, no race tires, no forced induction)
OEM + (Mostly stock vehicles, limited bolt ons and/or suspension, no weight reduction)
SR... any off the cuff input on this ?
