4efte Starlet FUEL PROBLEM HELP!!!!

Postby KTS » October 27th, 2008, 12:13 pm

Here ill try n explain d situation i do all d work on d car myself (built n servire d engine) so dont have a very reliable or starlet experience mechanic.
This is goin to be long so apolgising in advance........................

got a toyota 5efthe stock turbo with apexi safc1 tunes with a wideband o2 sensor in an ep82 starlet gt

car was working good idle fuel pressure ~36psi
changed the headgasket n put in 4agze low imp injectors wit resistors
car worked good lots of black smoke (cool so its getting fuel)
went to tune n realise car runnin lean above 4k rpm
changed d fuel pump to a walbro 255lph
pump was excessivily noisy n continued to run lean above 4k rpm

changed - regulator, injectors n back to stock wirin, fuel rail, fuel filter, fuel pump again (s15 sr20det), tps, ecu, checked map sensor wirin, retuned, coil, distributor, spark plugs (ngk iridium 7), plug wires, checked timin, disconnected apexi safc, checked for ecu codes n only gettin d normal ststus code,

car drives normal once not in boost as soon as it enteres boost it starts to buck n run lean so drivin d car slower dan granny

i check d spark plugs after each drive they r black so it gettin fuel but if i boost it the problem exist.

please ne help will be greately apprciated dont know wat to do i believe i tried every ting. goin to check d cam timin maybe d intake cam is slightly off need to take off d tappet cover to check.

My car was doing the same thing, after a few hours of digging up i realised that there was no vaccum line going to the FPR so the pressure was not rising when i went into boost, causing the car to run rich below 5 psi and break up above that.

Changed a few other items n still got d problem

CHANGED-
1) installed an aftermarket (new) fpr n raised fuel pressure to ~48psi
2) ran a direct power supply for d fuel pump
3) ran a direct fuel supply line from d tank to d engine
3) my sanity, patience n wash down d car
5) rubber fuel lines in engine bay

tink ill change d intanke fuel filter
car is runnin on minimum boost on a dead actuator ~ 4-5psi or less
car back fires once i shift gears, but has d problem even if goin up or down hills

wat u ppl tink i fedup hear my friends say throw away d engine n put in a SR20 its bout time i f dem up

MUST HAVE BOOST!!!!!!!!!!

HELP ME BOOST AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plenty easy to understand info here you will need to install Adobe Shockwave player to view info first.

If you using the stock exhaust manifold you could experience this problem the extra 200cc of displacement over whelms the already restricted manifold.

This site is very informative read it.

^^^^^^ a guy from Guyana who was experiencing your exact problem. Lots of advice from fellow Starlet tuners but was fixed on page 4 when he used 4EFTE low compression pistons

KTS, how much pressure are you using under boost? What fpr are you using? Maybe you need to bump up your base pressure by about 2psi.
