Transmission Problems

Postby mazda machine » January 6th, 2009, 11:25 am

i have an almera with a QG16 and transmission. As of recently i realized that on going from park to reverse,a slight force has to be applied. An even worse problem is that sumtimes when the 1st gear to 2nd shift is abt to take place,it gives a slight rev and ocassionally, when the 3rd gear has to come in,it does not shift and runs out the 2nd gear,so i have to stop and then proceed hoping that the gear goes in.
What can be done to curb this??? I hope my transmission does not need to be replaced... :(

dont take offense but the first thing you'll really want to do is ensure that the tranny oil is at teh right level.

Look under the sump and see if there are any dents too that might be causing low pressure.

Failing that, time to troubleshoot internal transmission issues.

jah, any leaks on the underbody? Drain all fluid and replace with the spec one immediately.

Try replacing trans. oil. Some recommend use of a treatment but I am sceptical of this.

If the fluid level is low, the transmission may slip or engage slowly. If the level is too high, the fluid can become mixed with air (aerated) causing shifting problems, slippage and noise.
The dent on the sump can cause flow and low pressure issues.
This may , I said may be your issue and I've seen this on many types of cars.
If the fluid is low, continual driving may have already caused damage to the clutch and gears.

prozack is right
your tranny sounds like it is slipping
watch the transmission oil on the dipstick and smell it
if it is blackish or it smells burnt well you know u slipping
dont wait to long otherwise new transmission

is it an electonic transmission or is it cable?
if electronic one of your sensors might be bad
check your park and neutral switch and make sure the jack is seated correctly

i had that revving problem when changing gears. happened from 2nd to 3rd. you wont believe it happened when i was in reverse and slapped it in drive. when it would shift from 2nd to 3rd it would rev then change, turns out the lever was right in between 2nd gear and drive. it throwed the error code "second gear function"

Any updates on this?

In my almera, when I first start it, the first 2 times when the gear has to shift from 1 to 2 I get a slight rev, but after that it is normal. So any info on yours would be appreciated..
