The engine blocks are the same. The cylinder bore are the same. The SR16 crankshaft has a shorter stroke, which lowers the displacement, but allows it to safely rev to higher RPMs. The SR16 has more aggressive camshaft specifications. The camshafts from the SR16 are considered to be an upgrade for SR20VE.
The SR16VE N1 engines had further upgraded camshafts, upgraded intake manifold (8 injectors) and a larger 70 mm throttle body and were found in the limited edition Nissan Pulsar VZ-R N1
