Engadget's "extremely knowledgeable and trusted sources" have found a set of folders dedicated to specific models of iPhone OS devices within the OS 3.2 platform simulator.

One of these folders is for the N89 which is reportedly the codename for the next generation iPhone. There is also a folder for the K48 which was rumored earlier to be the codename of the iPad.

Previous versions of the iPhone were named the M68, N82, and N88.

Interestingly Apple's just released 3.1.3 firmware also includes another model, the N80, which is supposedly the next version of the iPod touch.

Google has announced an over-the-air software update to the Nexus One phone which brings multi-touch along with other features.

It was thought that Google had excluded multi-touch on their device due to their relationship with Apple.

Below are some of the improvements...

Google Goggles: this mobile application will now be available directly on your device by launching it from your All Apps menu. Just use your Nexus One camera to start searching the web

Google Maps: the Maps application with be updated to a new version, Google Maps 3.4, which will include:
* Starred items synchronized with maps.google.com - access your favorite places from your phone or computer
* Search suggestions from your personal maps.google.com history - makes it easy to search for places you've searched for before
* Night mode in Google Maps Navigation - automatically changes your screen at night for easier viewing and driving

Pinch-to-zoom functionality: devices will now include a new pinch-to-zoom mechanism in the phone's Browser, Gallery and Maps applications

3G connectivity: we will provide a general fix to help improve 3G connectivity on some Nexus One phones

(Man if only that Apple patent was enforced more...)

Odd problem came up. Something I installed in Cydia which had me to do a reboot caused my iPhone to never find the carrier signal. So I'm redoing the jailbreak/unlock.

You could just download the firmware file .ipsw alone (not in a zip)

Thats odd. I download those 2 yesterday & they were in no zip & I am using Windows 7. If it is it comes out as .ipsw.zip just remove the .zip. May or may not work the same as I have to if I get something like .ipa.zip

Some essentials to install from Cydia (after updating iPhone):

-Backgrounder - to runs apps in background (unless iPhone OS 4.0 does as is rumored)

-CallerID and Format Fix 1.1 - to have caller ID

-CyDelete - allows deleting of Cydia installed apps like App Store apps

-iPhoneVM - virtual RAM (more for iPhone 2G & 3G owners)

-MemTool - app to free memory on iPhone. Also monitor & kill processes

-OpenSSH - allows apps like WinSCP to access iPhone via IP address

-ProSwitcher - Palm Pre-styled application switcher (works in conjunction with Backgrounder)

-SBSettings - Move common toggles directly into springboard (can kill processes & free memory like MemTool)

-wigglefree - disables the wiggle motion when moving apps (makes process smoother in the process)

-WinterBoard - where many customization options lie

redsn0w for Windows

redsn0w for Mac

The iPhone Dev-Team has just released redsn0w 0.9.4 to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G (No unlock for 3G), iPod touch 1G and iPod touch 2G (older Non-MC models only). Do not update to iPhone 3.1.3 firmware yet if you want to preserve your unlock for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2G (new models) and iPod touch 3G. This is because the new iPhone 3.1.3 firmware updates baseband to 05.12.01 on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G which makes it impossible to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3GS and 3G.

Apple has stopped signing iPhone OS 3.1.2. This means that those with an iPhone 3GS or iPod touch 3 who did not use Cydia to store their TSS cannot restore to anything but OS 3.1.3.

If you fall into that category, Big Boss warns to please make sure you are very careful with what you do from now until the next jailbroken firmware. Be sure that you don't do anything to your iPhone that may require a restore.

You may want to install OpenSSH and learn how to use it so certain repairs can be performed without a restore.

iPhone 3g and 2g users do not need to worry about this.

kurpal_v2, an easy 1st step will be to disable it from cydget if its annoying. Best bet google its location and use iFile/SSH/iphonebrowser to remove it. But its strange you aint seeing it on Packages. Try installing Rock and see if it's in the list on Rock?

SRASC, i believe once u add Sauriks host ip to system32/host file u still can but once you aint got it on file, your screwed.
