Vibration in Steering

Postby bess almera » April 23rd, 2010, 1:05 pm

Mysteering vibrates violently everytime the car goes into second gear. It stops from 3rd gear. Its a 2002 almera automatic. I did a suspension check and all was correct. Wheels rotated and balanced and aligned. What can be the other cause of this problem. Can an engine mount cause this?

does the car emit a large 'clunk' sound when u put the gear in gear from N to D or N to R?

it makes a "clunk" when itake it out of P and it "kicks" when going from 1st to 2nd gear.

^yup what he said, vibration possibly caused by resonance by a loose/worn engine mount

Hey people, I have a question. I recently bought new tyres for my car. I went from 175-70-14 to 195-60-14. I also speed balanced them but I am getting steering vibration at 100km/hr & over.
I had balanced again and still the vibration is there. The car never had this problem with the original tyres. What could be the problem and how to solve it???
I hope that reverting back to 175 is not an option. I hate those biscuit tyres.

With Thanks

if tire pressure / balance is good, check axles.
inner / outer cups, tripods could be worn.

Seeker, in my case it's d tyres... had a slite bump on 1 side dat causes it 2 vibrate @ higher speeds (mebbe wen brakin also...)

din kno dis, only found out afta checkin tyre pressure everyday @5:30am for a week, 3 trips 2 DM, re-alignment, a visit 2 d dealer (who rotated & balanced tyres), & still ha 2 carry it bak 4 dem!

d only way i saw it was puttin d car on a ram p& puttin it in drive; investigated d tyres unda goodlite & sa d hop & bump (afta lokin closely)

i'd suggest u do dat as well...l

Hmmmm..... Good Info fellas; I will listen to all what you guys to have to say. I will make a complete check on the tyres themselves.

check your tyres for geodeformation and wheels for bends, slight dents

Ok guys I got through. HOOK I did went different places to balance the tyres but with same crappy result that had me thinking to carry back those tyres.

However, I visited a Wheel alignment place at the end of Cleaver Road in Arima. That place was recommended to me. The owner explained that according to the size that different weights are required and sometimes the weights used could be too small. I did not know this. He and his crew then proceeded to balance the wheels. And fellas, the man really good and know his trade. I now could cruise 160km/hr and not a shudder. :)

Thanks guys for all your comments and recommendations. It was really appreciated.

I can endorse that.....
very thorough fella...has the latest equipment and knows his trade to a 'T'. Takes his time to explain the problem, lists whatever parts needs to be replaced, never aligns a car with bad parts.

If you are driving to Arima from D'abadie on the main road, Cleaver Road is on the left after you go up the 1st small hill. There is a hardware or something a little way before the corner. Turn into Cleaver Road and drive straight down, you can't miss it.
