see me... the man paying for the service of PS as well as others i shall not name. It is up to them to fulfill the required service.

When a man come and watch this and get the phone and expect whoever to cut the card to microsim size or w/e or even worse unlock it, that is the man (said PS/buyer) issue.

I would hate to be on the receiving end of a US based iPhone4 and knowing that there is NO unlock out yet.

A lot of users have been asking for custom 4.0 firmwares for their iDevices. All of the custom firmwares below are basic firmwares with no custom logos, default partitions, and the default Cydia package installed. It will take time to make more, feel free to request basic firmwares. More are in the making as you read this.

iPhone 3GS Old Bootrom 4.0, Unactivated (Need legit AT&T SIM card), Default Logos, No Baseband Update

http://www.multiupload.com/9013NZSZ8T

iPhone 3GS Old Bootrom 4.0, Hacktivated (No legit SIM card needed), Default logos, No Baseband Update

http://www.multiupload.com/4HJBAGRG2C

TroubleShooting thanks to dev team:

Summary: Currently, PwnageTool only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom.

If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can use the provided custom firmwares.
If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM then you can not use these firmwares.

Orange UK will be giving out SIM adapters along with its iPhone 4 MicroSIMs so that you can use the card in different phones.

Conor Maples, PR Manager for Orange UK, tweeted the image below earlier today.

If you aren't with Orange you can order your own from http://www.microsim-shop.com/

Steve Jobs has responded to a customers email asking why the iPhone 3G didn't get wallpaper backgrounds on the homescreen.

iPhone 3G Customer wrote:“Hey Steve! I just upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS 4 and was really looking forward to setting a background on my home screen. Guess that’s not happening, but I’d like to know why.

See, I get why you don’t include multitasking. My iPhone gets pretty hot when certain apps run, couldn’t imagine how multitasking would fry my phone.

But the background thing, I don’t see how that would be memory intensive and/or battery draining. It doesn’t seem like that feature needs to be exclusive to the 3GS and 4G."

Steve Jobs wrote:"The icon animation with backgrounds didn’t perform well enough."

------

A video comparison by Adrian Nier shows that the iPhone 3G performs significantly slower on iOS 4.0.

Camera Launch: 40% slower
Camera Shoot: 54% slower

Settings Launch: 125% slower

Safari Loads NYT: 37% faster

Also please note that if you decide to jailbreak and enable multitasking this will make your iOS 4 device even slower! Take a look at the video here

The first Raw iPhone 4 HD Video has been posted on a forum without any media player compression or conversions (ie YouTube). You can download the video below.

Jimmy Kimmel recorded his entire late night show using the webcam on his MacBook after a power outage shut down the control room, according to ABC.com.

----
An hour before showtime last night, a power outage shut down the Jimmy Kimmel Live control room, broadcast transmission center, and tape operations area. With guests and a studio audience waiting, Jimmy recorded the whole show on his laptop using his computer's webcam.

Kimmel welcomed guests Seth Rogen (The Green Hornet), John Henson (Wipeout), and country star Dierks Bentley - who improvised with an acoustic performance from his new album "Up On The Ridge." During Rogen's interview, Jimmy ran the much anticipated exclusive world premiere of the trailer from THE GREEN HORNET.

This unintentionally special episode of JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE will be broadcast Tuesday night at 12:05|11:05c.

thats not the case

I stop selling, unlocking, servicing and doing hardware repairs on iPhones because Powersellers on this forum and other retail stores, knowing i ran the iPhone Blog and was one of the first doing repairs etc used to send their customers for "warranty" repairs by me or give them my number as their "tech support"

allot of people were selling phones and give no after service or if they do, the service is pathetic.

I still to this day get calls nearly every day from people begging me to fix their phone or some crap, and the iPhone 4 going to bring them in droves. It's sellers like this "APPLE Iphone 4 16GB-$5800 & 32GB-$7300 NEW FROM APPLE!" selling locked phones for crazy prices that pisses me off, Canada and the UK both sell sim free unlocked phones... why sell people an unusable/hacked product for the same price as the device unlocked from apple??..

If you bought your iPhone in the UK you may be able to get it unlocked. A coworker bought his 8gb 3GS at O2 a few months ago (not on contract), and sent them and e-mail requesting an unlock. The next time he synced, he got the "your iphone is now unlocked" message.

Lucky him, since he had safely upgraded to iOS4 using a bmobile sim card.

service i meant as in providing an unlocked phone. Worst thing is basically what u described, that aspect of it.
But i wouldn't doubt that was the case with you. I guess that's why you stopped it all and i dont blame you.

It's quite pathetic i must say. that's what fks up the iPhone mod industry. The worst is when to u see a dev post an update on twitter, they ask them, ohh when this and that releasing.

What is sad is that there are some who claim to be iPhone Guru's and they end up screwing up person's iPhones.
I tbh, read a lot but i'm no way near some people level, i remember i unlocked a friend of mines 3gs using the old method on 3.0.1 and custom update to 3.1.2 using a pwnagetool ipsw. One of her friends away, played know it all, updated her to 3.1.3 and her phone was locked for months. Only this week gone here she was unlocked.

Apple released its much-awaited iOS 4 update Monday for the iPhone 3G and 3GS, as well as the second and third generations of the iPod Touch. However, not all iOS 4 features have rolled out for all devices, and first-generation versions of both the iPhone and the iPod Touch won't get the update at all. Here is a chart breaking down what you do or don't get with iOS 4, depending on which device you have.

Image

------

Image

Citing manufacturing problems, Apple on Wednesday said the iPhone 4 in white should be available about a month from today.
The iPhone maker released a very brief statement the day before the iPhone 4 is scheduled to be available to the general public.
"White models of Apple's new iPhone 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July," Apple said.
Black versions of the iPhone 4 will arrive on schedule. The iPhone 4 will hit stores on Thursday for the first time, where there is expected to be huge demand for the new phones. Apple said last week it took preorders for 600,000 iPhones on the first day the company made that option available.
In what appears to be a shipping snafu, some customers who preordered their iPhone 4 to be shipped to their home have already begun to receive their units. Some reported receiving them on Tuesday, and others are starting to receive them Wednesday.

------

A number of new iPhone 4 owners are reporting that their just delivered devices are suffering from a yellow discoloration on the retina display. Currently, there is no explanation for why this is happening and Apple Stores have no replacements available.

Threads have been started at MacRumors and the Apple Discussion Forums about the issue.

Hopefully this isn't a widespread problem...

Image

------

A review unit sent out by Apple has managed to collect "incredibly minor" scratches on its back made of hardened glass after just a few days of heavy use.

Engadget was given a review unit of the iPhone 4 prior to this week's public release. In its hands-on time with the device, the glass back panel managed to accumulate scratches, though the website dubbed them minor.

"It's what we'd call 'incredibly minor,' not visible at all dead on, but in bright light at an angle... well see for yourself (in) the photos," it said.

When Apple introduced the iPhone 4 earlier this month, the Cupertino, Calif., company touted that both the device's front and back panels are made of aluminosilicate glass, chemically strengthened to be 30 times harder than plastic, and "more scratch resistant and more durable than ever." The front and back glass are also said to include an oil-resistant coating that helps to keep it clean.

The first reviews of the handset noted its durability, as Walt Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal said "I dropped it several times from a few feet onto a hard surface with no problem, and it acquired no scratches in all my testing, even though I didn't use a case or coddle it."

Ed Baig of USA Today also wrote that an Apple executive dropped the phone in front of him, for him to see. "The phone was undamaged," he said.

Image

In its teardown of the iPhone 4, solutions provider iFixit found that the front glass on Apple's latest handset is made of "Gorilla Glass." It made no mention of the back panel.

"The front glass panel of the iPhone is constructed of Corning Gorilla Glass, a chemically strengthened alkali-aluminosilicate thin sheet glass that is reported to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic," the company said in its teardown. "Gorilla Glass holds many advantages as the iPhone 4's front panel, including its high resistance to wear and increased strength from an ion-exchange chemical strengthening process."

Image

Apple will sell its first-ever set of iPhone protectors alongside the iPhone 4, dubbed Bumpers. They will be available in 6 colors for $29.99 apiece, but the accessories don't obscure the front or back of the handset, instead wrapping the handset's edges in a shock-absorbing, rubberized material.

Earlier this month, one website came into possession of an iPhone 4 with a cracked glass front panel, challenging Apple's own claims of the durability of the new hardware.

Apple has posted a 244 page iPhone User Guide for iOS 4 Software. The guide covers 28 chapters from iPhone at a Glance to Accessibility.

The woes continue.. apparently sweaty palms and the antenna on the ring around is not a great combination.

Just a little supplement M_2nr's post

---

We have received complaints from our readers that they’re observing reception issues when they touch iPhone 4’s side antenna bands.

Gizmodo has also received several complaints from their readers who have observed the same issue and has posted many videos showing the problem.

iPhone 4 comes with a new antenna system system. Steve Jobs had revealed during his Keynote address at WWDC that the stainless steel bands around the new iPhone are actually part of the "primary structural element" of the device that house the iPhone's antenna system.

We were hoping that the new antenna system will fix the network connectivity issues resulting in fewer dropped calls that has plagued iPhone users until now (at least AT&T's iPhone customers). But things don’t look good if you take a look at the videos below:

Here is a video from another user showing the same problem:

One user has reported that he is observing the same issue if he only touches the left side, connecting both antennas.

While another user hasn’t observed the issue even if he touches the side antennas.

Another user did a speed test with the iPhone on the table, with his hands on the phone, and one while he had his hands on the phone but with a leather case on it. He observed that he observed the issue only when he hands on the phone (without the leather case).

Meanwhile Kewlj1313, one of our readers is reporting that he is observing a strange freezing issue on this iPhone 4. He has posted the following video to show the issue he is facing:

We’re not sure why he is facing this issue but it could be due to the fact that he has restored from his iPhone 3GS backup. Setting it up as a new iPhone in iTunes might be an option though its not an ideal solution.

New iPhone 4 owners have also reported discoloration on iPhone 4’s retina display and scratches on the glass back.

Update 1:

MacRumors points out that similar issues were seen with older iPhone models. The video below shows a similar issue on an iPhone 3G.

So it doesn't seem to be an iPhone 4 specific issue.

Update 2:

Our readers are reporting that though they've observed a similar issue, it is not affecting the call quality. So it seems to be a software glitch or might have something to do with the fact that an iPhone 4 was restored from an iPhone 3GS backup.

Update 3:

Kewlj1313 has restored his iPhone 4 as a new iPhone rather than from his iPhone 3GS backup and it seems to have resolved his freezing issue.

God I hope things work out & if it is a software issue that it is resolved ASAP.

We got up pretty close to the iPhone 4's retina display in our review, but we can't say we got quite as close as PhD candidates Ryan White and Bryan Gauntt of Penn State University, who have kindly provided us with some images of the screen under a microscope (along with an iPhone 3G for comparison). According to their measurements, the iPhone 3G's pixels measure 13 x 40 microns, while the iPhone 4's measure 6.5 x 20 microns, which adds up to exactly four times as many pixels. As impressive as sounds that sounds, however, it's the pictures that really tell the story -- hit up the gallery below to check them out.

engadget has stated that it most likely isnt a software issue because they have managed to repetedly drop calls on purpose by doin it..

Did anyone have any success with Sn0wbreeze 1.6.1 and iOS4? I tried this morning without success. I'm back to 3.1.3, and in the process of restoring to the settings that I had before.

Well the issue with the antenna is that your hand completes or joins the two separated antennae thus causing signal drop on 3G systems. I don't know if it would affect T'dad stone age carriers as much but in any case Apple has released rubber "bumpers" to insulate the gap. That IMO is a "ratch"(that works) and the problem cannot be totally fixed without an updated design as it is hardware based.

The screen smudge issues appear to be hardware related although not wide spread.

The glass fragility issues are hardware related and can be prevented by using a good case. I wouldn't carry around a Gen 4 naked like i would a 2G, 3G or 3GS.

not quite accurate.. if u look at sum of the videos u see the 3g icon on the status bar dissappears.. this is the 3g loosing signal.. then the bars it self start to plumit.. thats gms signal... thats us.. that sucks..

EDIT: or i may be rong.. just looked over the video an the 3g stayed till the end of the signall.. but a 3g sim to my understand also uses gsm.. because in certain ares there are no 3g coverage in us an ppl still have at&t iphones.. an they get 3g access wen they go somewhere with coverage.. so the bars fallin is gsm aswell so our age old technology has no safety here..

Would you like to be able to wirelessly sync your iPhone with your computer? It seems like it should be fairly simple right? Perhaps Apple is looking at a light weight way to sync… Perhaps a method that will look at the differentials and only pull those down kind of like rsync… It seems feasible that the only reason you should ever need to connect up would be for major OS upgrades. Perhaps given the increase in horsepower for devices like the iPad and iPhone 4.0 this may be possible as it would require more device processing for the differential snapshot. That’s my guess.

I like most were probably a little skeptical at the iPhone 4's antennae design. As I saw that it reminded me of my old Nokia 5100. The instruction manual stated to avoid touching the antennae on the top at the back of the phone, and Apple just made it basically be the phone's surrounding. I thought for Apple to do this meant they had a proper workaround, but it looks like that's not the case. With today being launch day, we shall see if these were issues related to these early comers, or not as many I'm sure would report their issues.

i think something like a total shield will fix this easily (hopefully) or I will wait for round two of the iPhone 4 and get a HTC in the meanwhile, cause my 3G about to DEAD! ahaha

but I have been watching the antenna problem on the iPhone 4 on youtube vids and I must say I only hold the phone with my index and thumb in my right hand (mostly) with my palm near the bottom of the phone.. so it may not be that bad..

but everyone has stated that the bumper or other cases solve the problem easily.
