I doubt they will give the students ability to take to laptops home... its not for personal use, and in essence belongs to the gov't/school.

Easily each student can have an account on the laptop with his/her data that can be stored online to be accessed anywhere..

the gov't most def has thought this through and will announce how the plan to handle all issues raised here, dont take on the conspiracy theorist and propaganda spreading, we all know where the motivation for this coming from.

NAh man ---students cherish this> Please dude this generation is not like our time bro....we would have taken care of our stuff but not these.....remember they getting this free...the majority would look to sell and use it for reasons other than school workk...

They cant leave this in schools......you think teachers have time to log in and log out 200 laptops every day for the kids to play video games......Its not like the teachers have laptops too and would email assignments and stuff that would not work...

If they stored it in schools overnight....well schools would be broken inot and all laptops stolen...remember we in trinidad......

Stupid stupid stupid promise by the PP

Thanks saxman, I knew it was something like that. I hope they share the 83 mil per year around across the government contractors so that we can all 8) get rich. Hope no students get jjjjjj jacked on their way home from school, bing bing. I knew they weren't going to leave them in the schools since as you already said, they've been rolling out labs in schools since last year lmao and they still as of right now :) This is a great plan.

You have GOTS to be kidding!

no i am not, i have donated computers to the kids in the lil poor area in my neighborhood, the boys laughed and said they will sell them for bikes etc, and years later, guess what, they still used to stop me and ask me for software or extra keyboards etc.. they look like lil bandits and theor older brothers do nothing all day and sell weed and drink stags, but the computers still there ;)

Ok. Granted your isolated incident may instill some confidence in the system...what about becoming even BIGGER targets for predators. Those kids you spoke of have the luxury of ALWAYS keeping them home if they so choose. What happens when teachers ask for them to be in class tomorrow, and you go to school in Malik or other high-risk environments?

Sure the kids might cherish them, but would you feel comfortable knowing your child has to get to and from class-by themselves- in one piece with an 8 pound piece of technology worth over $4000TT on the lonely streets of never dirty or picton?

^There are only 7000 teachers, so everyone will get one 8). To be honest, the desktops are only setup with fujitsu monitoring them so that the students who don't have computers have something to do and so the schools look cool. There are schools with labs approved and rolled out since last year that are still not approved for use, but that's because laptops are better and this is 2010.

don't believe every child should get their own laptop for reasons already stated....

what can happen is they introduce a computer literacy subject that's mandatory in form1 which will teach the children how to use a computer for research and presentations...expand/renovate current community centers to accommodate new computers profiting not only the youth but the computer illiterate adults in tnt....this way it doesn't become an occurring expense...
...but b4 they take that 83mil n pump it into the schools n community centers they wanna put a laptop in a child's hand?

Most likely it will be those teacher who get "training" in use of what ever features/software exist on the laptop. I just hope teachers will be allowed to install educational software on them.

I tried to stay from this thread but.....

- If PP make that promise then the UNC / COP treasuary should pay for this not tx pyers.
- 83 mill could build alot of houses in t'dad approx 332 @ 0.25m-this is a pressing issue we face due to over inflated houses here.
- Put the damn rail guards / cables on the h/way.
- Most houses have a computer. Save the 83M in the H&S fund.

I somehow feel dooks going to raise personal tax or reduce the p/allowance.
I think Super gas is going to be raised OR road tax % at the pumps.
OJT is going to be a thing of the past.
Used car dealers will benefit in the next budget, just watch & see.

RASC wrote:What they should've done is this:

Allocate enough laptops to accommodate an entire "FORM" of each given school across the land.

i.e. 200 students coming in. 200 Laptops.

Now these laptops will then be secured, maintained, distributed, upgraded, replaced through the ministry and a qualified technician or two on the school compound. Not all students would need laptops within a certain year, at all the same time.

Teachers would then incorporate the use of laptops per class, per subject.
For example: Form2, Period5, Tuesday will have access to the laptops.
And with that system there will STILL be enough for other classes to use them, as there are only approx 40 students per class (even less once you pick your O'Level courses).

Makes alot more sense than giving teenages free reign over laptop use in whichever class they feel like using it in. Or whenever they feel like bringing it in.

"Oh sorry sir my laptop got stolen...couldn't bring it today*snicker*" <---How is a teacher going to curtail that kind of behavior?

This is just an extra burden on alot of these schools...God Forbid your child did not do too well and end up in a gunta school...then what? I wouldn't have brought my laptop to school either if I were those kids.

No serious planning was put into this. It will turn out to cost ALOT more than anticipated, in terms of man hours wasted & most importantly money.

i know for a fact that under the previous administration, providing 3 full laptop classrooms for the lower forms was part of a SEMP project until SEMP was eventually done away with and the project was never completed (money issues?)

i totally agree that the PP should have continued with this plan and provide every secondary school with the 3 laptop classrooms.

are they really going to spend 83mil every year for these laptops? :?

Its amazing and quite clear RASC don't give a sh!t about Trinidad or its children. I agree HP laptops generally create to much heat but it makes sense to buy either HP or dell.

PC expertz which is located in Tunapuna and Freeport now honors both AOC and HP warranty locally. This is what the owner of supertech told me recently when I went to buy a HP printer.

RASC its clear to me and everyone that your only purpose on this site is to troll and cause mischief.

So saxman, its basically a waste then ?

when they can spend on labs that would be cheaper and cost a shitload less on administrative overhead ?

imagine, 12 students a day maybe more coming to get a porn search bar removed from IE :|

It clearly was not thought out & there seems to be more cons than pros.
There are people who are barely able to send their kids to school, the thought of them having to be responsible for the laptops are just a burden imo.
Could they not have spent money and do 'labs' at the school & let ALL the students benefit?
Yes doing labs mean they have to spend money on securing the facility etc...
BUT
I would much prefer to hear the school was broken into than my child 'held up' and robbed of his laptop & worse again if they think I buying it back! :agrue:

I wonder how many out there in T/Tuner are subject to PAYE. From personal experience when you look @ you P/slip for PAYE @ month end & see utter nonsense (83M) thrown away like this it hurts you...really it does.

I'd rather the 2M dollar flag flying high in the sky than this sheit.
Then they giving $500 for books for flood victims. Like taxpayers mining every kiss meh ass body that get into flooding problems yet de farmers get big payouts, & these some beyotches telling de public brace for higher food prices.

RASC man yuh damn right. And TNT running a defecit budget for fiscal 2010/2011.

BTW anyone notice in todays express PBM 1 & PBL 1 for sale via auction.

I agree that labs should be built and equipped though, perhaps have them open (with security) before and after school hours to facilitate users.

I real eh like the "here.look a laptop..take it home...we trust yuh"

it's clear that they cant let the children take the laptops home, they will be for the schools.. the children would not be targeted by bandits in the schools

but none of us know whats going to take place, this is all conspiracy, speculation and propaganda until an official statement is made.

I bet if allyuh had kids writing SEA allyuh would ah be jumping for Joy.

But as typical trinituner mentality goes, Well I have and my parents have money and or I done school and this eh benefiting me so let all of them fack off. Just like the man who finish school and he get GATE or he parents had money now he wishing for GATE to be terminated so he could sh!t on the little man.

The upper class would be very upset because that means dirt poor kids would be on near equal quality of life in terms of technology as the rich kids.

And we can't have that ent? most people who use the internet are middle or upper class thats why we see nasty comments on trinituner and people hating on the poor kids getting to learn to use computers. The ones who cannot afford it. The ego of the rich will be reduced. But doh worry mammy and daddy go buy the rich boys a ASUS Republic of Gamers and that should raise the ego and everybody wins.

Thats how it is ent. Not just trinituner but nearly everywhere you turn nowadays.

When they make promises, they tell you how they are going to spend your money if they are elected. The spending was approved by the tax payer the moment they stained their finger. Your statement is silly.
