As a projects engineer in a private firm, I was making $5.2k per month. The boss claim it was because of lack of experience, but other engineers (more experienced, I talking bout 8 years experience and ting) were making abou 6.5K per month. D managers were making $10K
Not for me nah. I stay a year and ride out.

That is pretty much the average for the majority of private companies out there.

this answer is heavily dependent on sector.

oil sector?
law?
engineering ?
sales?
marketing ?
advertising ?
accounting ?
foreign company vs local company.
contract employment vs permanent employment?
overtime or no overtime
experience of applicant...

could be from 8k - 30k with all those variables.

Where i work the GM gets around $20k managers 12k - 15k
Welder could make 3k - 4k ,a week easy working 12 hour shifts 7 days a week.
Pipe Layers make the same 3k - 4k a week.
Me and the other office clerks get 5k - 6k a month... :( the lowest paid in the company.
Our staff are still the lowest paid in the country right now in the Marine Construction Industry. I heard the Port workers make more than us.

If you are competent and possess a degree in a decent field, with 3-5 years experience you should be at 12-15K.

With 5-10 years experience you should be looking at 15-20K.

Managers get around 20-25K with perks like car, housing, travel allowance etc.

IT is such a large umbrella under. People who belong are

Helpdesk
PC Technicians
Operators
Project Leaders, Architects, Programmers, Analysts, Testers, Change Management
System Admins
Network Technicians
Network Admins
Database Admins
etc.

When quoting a salary it's better to be specific about their exact job, instead of just saying IT.

What about from the hospital alone? Takes a while before you can work in private, well legally anyway...

Recently graduated doctors in the hospital make less than 20k
Dentists make well over 30k

Straight out of med school.

Fresh out of med school an intern can make 10-12k, after a year they will become a House Officer and after tax they will make around 18-20k. With post grad training they can become a Registrar and earn around 35k, and with more experience they can become a Consultant and get 45k. At any time they can get a private work on the side but mostly Registrars and up get them.

You can't compare a US salary to here though. Contrary to popular belief the cost of living in T&T is cheaper and as such, one can maintain a comparible social structure with their US counterpart with less money. If a person is moving back here they just have to be willing to accept a developing country lifestyle...

Can't forget to factor in loan repayments on top of that. Rough indeed.

Its only 5 years of studing, GATE pays for your tution, and after your first year your salary becomes 18k. The catch is that it is a lot of stuff to study.

I just look at fuel prices. Even after the subsidy is removed I'm sure it will be less than alot of other places out there.

Even things like watching movies here are cheaper, I know going to see one in Canada can run you 12CAD ~ 84TT with comparabe facilities.

the fact of the matter is, the cost of living is lower in the US and Canada.
Basic necessities like food, clothes and shelter are cheaper there than it is in Trinidad.

1st year out of med school you make 10.5-11.5k after tax...depending on the field, you may make more, for example in MHWH you get close to 15k a month because of the extra call sessions...
Dentists in their first year make 5-6k...

After the first year, you can work privately if you wish...how much you make depends on where and how much you work...if you stay within the hospital, again it depends on which field you work..standard is 16-20K after tax...in some fields you'd be forced to take extra call and can earn up to 30k in some cases...
Dentists work privately after their first year...they would average 15-20K for a year or two...some a bit more...depending on which practice and clientelle, it'll steadily go up to 30-40k over a few years, sometimes higher...
A medical registrar (having done your postgraduate) makes 25k or so, but work alot less...
Consultants (higher speicalty) make in the 30k region...and work even less lol...
Because the latter two generally are more experienced, have lower working hours and dont usually stay in the hospital for call days, they are more likely to work privately and thus make more..however i know quite a few house officers who do both as well...

Hope that clears the debate above on medical salaries

And just to add...the working hours and workload most doctors have in the public hospitals is nowhere near worth the salary...i can assure you...
