Clarkson - The Italian Job + Top Gear Apocalpyse

Don't say we're not good to you on TopGear.com. Every Monday for the next four weeks, we'll be uploading some exclusive clips and outtakes from Jeremy’s new DVD: The Italian Job. And we're starting today.

Jezza's first-ever double-disc DVD operates under a simple premise. He needs to get fit to take part in his first-ever touring car race. Eschewing more traditional methods, he quickly hits upon a ruse: a week at Italy's finest heath farm. Imola.

Featuring some of the cars that couldn't or didn't make the last series of Top Gear - the Mercedes SLS, Porsche GT3, Lambo Superleggera LP570-4 and 599 GTO, among others - this regime proves surprisingly effective.

And it delivers Jeremy back to the UK in fine fettle to take the wheel of a highly tuned Ford Escort Mexico for his debut in classic touring cars.

That's the main reel for you - the DVD also includes a 45-minutes behind-the-scenes doc, plus JC's favourite five-car demolitions from over the years.

Just saw it...it was good, he should have gone more in depth with the escort about the specs and driving feel etc. Went on too long with that lambo tho..

Lyden Hill ftw!

Descent movie, it just felt like a longer episode of Top Gear. Still very cool though.

It was one of the best videos Clarkson has done to date. All the others were just boring compared to this one.

for me the Zonda was full of win!!!

i think its a matter of what you wud enjoy as a "everyday super car"....though to me...had he included James and Richard, it would have been much more interesting.....i know James cane drive more than he leads on...its just how much skill he possesses...clearly not a Tiff Needle kind of skill but still..

The Porsche GT3 did it for me though...me eh care what was more powerful....after i saw that i was good...

and Tiff needs to do one of these....and soon!

Not really surprised, it was expected...I just love the soundtrack
Clarkson did mention, although it looks like a race car, it wasn't designed to do actual racing and therefore it does not have to meet 'racing regulations' and it wasn't a road car either "it's just a speed machine, a 1.3 million pound toy"

Anyway, another great soundtrack came from this:

Image

The Ariel Atom normally comes either with a supercharged Honda Civic Type-R K20 or a supercharged 2.0L GM Ecotec .......

....a V8 using two Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle heads. The engine is estimated to make 500 horsepower and redline at 10,000 rpm. Of course that kind of rarity and power doesn’t come cheap. The engine is estimated to cost $50,000.

from the Ariel website...

Center of the Atom V8 is the lightweight 3 litre normally aspirated engine built for Ariel in the USA. Flat plane crank, forged pistons, chain driven double overhead cam with 4 valves per cylinder and revving to 10,500 rpm, the all alloy and aluminium engine has race car specification throughout. Dry sump lubrication, 8 throttle bodies with sequential fuel injection and ceramic coated stainless exhaust are all part of the standard specification and, due to the compact nature of the engine, the installation fits perfectly in to the Atom engine bay.
