we will need to lock off noise @ 7pm. so try to make it 3-4pm.

i need to sound proff that room... a 22X20 bass drum is too much noise for any thing after dark...

Usual procedure is to decide on a song list and email the tracks to everyone so they can learn their part, so when you get together, it's less of a jam and more of a rehearsal.

The hardest part in something like this where everybody has such diverse musical backgrounds is finding a suitable repertoire.

If it's a kix jam then start with say one song of choice from each member, then two, then three and drop the ones that don't sit well with everyone. Usually nothing gets dropped cuz the music grows on you when you jam it a few times.

Stick to fun songs at first instead of trying to force your personal preference from the get-go. And as y'all ain't really started to gel yet, don't attempt anything that requires Level 10 skill just yet.
I'd love to get a band together to play Meshuggah and Tool covers, but it ain't happenin' so....meh...

Might I offer something a bit more pop-ish that's fun to play, easy to learn and pretty much everybody knows.

or even this:
